Titonton & the Notorious They? Anyone have details on what this is about; genre, set-up, anything? I will definitely go to this!!!!
I asked him via FB and will shoot details if I get them.

Check out fo/mo/deep - they tore it up at the Columbus Arts Festival!
Shameless self promotion!
I'm performing with SwingColumbus at 3:15 on the Live Arts Stage
All our guys are on vacation or working that day, so I'm dancing the guy part. That's right, GIRLS DANCING WITH GIRLS like you've never seen before!
we'll be doing a quick demo of all different kinds of swing dance too- so if you've heard of Lindy Hop on SYTYCD or Dancing with the Stars, you can see what it really looks like. it's a quick show- only 20 minutes! please check us out!

Fingers crossed for nice weather!! mother nature shall not ruin my beer this year! *shakes fist*
i don't think mike perkins gets old. i love seeing him play, especially with guests. jerry depizzo makes appearances at shows when he's home sometimes. i wish he wasn't playing the same time as the spikedrivers though. who planned that? pick two of the very few bands playing that actually have real fanbases, who happen to mix together a lot, and have them play at the same time?
Looks like Titonton is confirmed for Comfest.
Here's more info about the band:
"Oh the band consists of
Ian Jessee -Violin
Carl Larson-Viola
Jane van Voorhis-Cello
Leah Hoover-Vocals
Carlos Fisher-Drums and Percussion
Titonton- Keyboards, Vocals(!) and all composition and arrangements( not so much sleep lately)"
And.. I definitely took that weekend off.
I always take that Friday off and Monday in case an out of town old friend shows up for the event.
This will be my first comfest, and I'm excited to have something like this right outside my door!
I'm a bit surprised they get so many bands playing at once in a relatively small area,, but I never see people on here talk about the sound mixing so it must not be a big deal.
I don't think I'm familiar with any of these bands, but will certainly be roaming around checking things out.
i have never been more excited for a specific act at comfest than i am for that titonton thing. on an unrelated thought:
does comfest really have a "secret" (or otherwise) committee of local music participants who decide which bands are allowed to play and when? or is that just a bitter rumor?
There is a music committee who sifts through the applications and picks the bands, but I don't think they're a "secret". I know at least two people who have served on that committee.
The "secret" part probably just comes from some whiny bands who didn't get picked to play. ;)

This is the first time I can recall they've put an electronic act on at comfest..
I don't think there's any real bias in that though other than the people who do the picking don't really know about dance music...
Quite a few years ago ele_mental did a renegade soundsystem over by the tennis courts.. we expected to get the boot, but instead the Comfest people came by and said hi.. We did it two years, but it got to be a bit of a drag, and noone came along to pick it up, so we let it go..
Is there something wrong if I don't care at all about Comfest anymore?

yeah, i don't know about secret, but a number of people have pretty much said it's who you know. there's a lot of really, really awful acts at comfest year after year.
i think comfest could be the perfect spot for an RC Mob reunion some year...i'll just keep dreaming.

Not really.. For 2-3 years I didn't go at all, and for several years I'd only spend an hour or two there each year.. I just pick a few performances and go to those, plus visiting with friends.. Last year I spent more time there than I had in years, and it was still only like 4-6 hours total..
It's not for everyone.. I do enjoy some aspects of it, but the sheer crush of people gets to be too much for me..

You need a sheet of blotter, a snuggie, a camel back and some menthols.

IMO, it has outgrown the space. I go Friday at Noon and walk around for a couple of hours, get a mug, eat some carnival food, listen to a band or two then promptly escape the deluge of people that pour in around 6pm. Rest of the weekend I avoid the area if possible.
Years ago I would stay at Comfest every day, all day, and work out a rigorous schedule to see as many bands as possible and run from stage to stage. Nowadays though I just enjoy walking around with no plan & running into random friends. It's like my family reunion for people I'm not related to. The more I lower my expectations, the more fun I have. Playing there is always fun too. (blatant plug: I'm playing Friday, 7:40 @ the Solar Stage.)
I still like to stay almost all day every day (except last year...ooops). I always circle all the bands I want to see, then have too much beer, lose my schedule halfway through Friday, lose my first mug walking home Friday night and start all over Saturday.
And I'm still ready for my fishboat.
