Being new to town, what is Comfest? I thought it was just a drunk, pot smoking weekend with music. Am I relatively correct? lolNo, not at all. There is a lot of drinking but since they stopped the BYOB that stopped folks from bringing cases in the park and getting bombed. ComFest is an all volunteer, no corporate sponsors, community event to offer a venue for community organizations to sell and promote their cause. The event has been a recycled event for 38 years and the only recycled event in Columbus except for Earth Day. They have workshops, talks and performing arts and all musician, artists and foods are local to Columbus.
If you volunteer for 4 hours, you will be paid ComFest chips good for food and drink and a tshirt that is unique to volunteers only. Also you will see a bit of the inner working of the event. Help out and volunteer at the volunteer central tent.Posted 1 year ago # -

As the coordinator of things First Aid, I will be there all weekend.
My ComFest is going to be like this:
Friday: Show up around 0800-0900, help with some things around the park, help my supervisor set up if necessary. Work a Safety shift noon to 4. Help out some more around the park as needed. Find some dinner, and a drink or two. Walk around doing things and seeing people until Flypaper. Help get people out of the parks, make sure that there's no one asleep on the grass, go home.
Saturday: This is my day as First Aid "it" person. I will be all over the park, assisting people, looking out for injured folks, helping treat cases, so on and so forth. All day, all night.
Sunday: "Tourist Day" - My kids tag along for the ride. I'm not scheduled on anywhere, but I'll most likely be helping out as needed.
Bands I want to see: Flypaper, Super Desserts, FauxReal 5, and if there's any ska, I'll be there.Looking forward to another good Festival, rain or shine...

Also, I would like to point out that I created a Foursquare venue, "Community Festival 2010". I'd love to see a Super Swarm occur, possibly Saturday afternoon. Spread the word!

I can't wait. This is my favorite weekend of the year. The weather will be awesome. I plan to post up with my fish boat by the gazebo under the trees. People say airports are the best for people watching but I think Comfest might have to be higher on my list.

Rivet & What The Rock will have booths at Comfest again this weekend (both SN shops will be closed this Fri-Sun in lieu of running the Comfest booths).

Being new to town, what is Comfest? I thought it was just a drunk, pot smoking weekend with music. Am I relatively correct? loli'd say it is a get up in the morning, have brunch with the neighbors, walk down to the park with a traveler mug, spread out your blanket, listen to some music, have some beers, eat a falafel, talk to your friends who stroll by and stop on your blanket, head to neighbor's cookout, spend evening with friends.
it needn't be complicated, yet people unnecessarily load it down with so much baggage they ruin it for themselves and feel the need to try and do so for others. at the end of the day, it's sitting in a park with friends.

+1 dru! I'm doing some volunteering on Sat at the bike corral, but otherwise, hilighting bands I'd like to see, beer and wine, good food, and hanging out with friends on a blanket or two. Been doing that for 20+ years now, and it's still the best weekend of the year. Yup, there are some idiots there, mostly Sat night, but there are morons everywhere, so I just deal.

C-busfoodie, you're going to love Comfest. There is an area with the typical "fair food", but also lots of great, more local places like Rad dog, Lac Viet, Lavash, Phat Wraps, Whole World, Queens Table, Dragonfly, Wellness Forum, Nida's, etc. I tend to make a pig of myself every Comfest;)

I plan on being there all weekend.
I plan on trying to not turn into a lobster in the sun and I plan on eating a fish boat.
Those are my tentative plans.

Friday - Bronson Bunny Deathwish, Liquid Crystal Project, Phantods, Flotation Walls, CG & Lonely Bones, Bush League All-Stars, DJ BHB, and like the entire Gazebo schedule (Lydia Loveless, Saturday Giant, Matt Monta, Andy Shaw, Max Power Trio, Apocolypso - are you kidding me?) . I'm going to have to make some decisions..
Saturday - Super Desserts, Main Street Gospel, COTRM, Monolithic Cloud Parade, Trains Across the Sea, The Receiver, Eric Nassau, Megan Palmer, Cowboy Hillbilly Hippy Folk, Derek Dicenzo, fomodeep, Mojoflo, Floorwalkers, sigh (less conflicts, but still a lot of bouncing around.) I'm ending Saturday night with the rest of the universe at Bozo singing along to Nick Tolford and Company and dancing like a damn fool. If you don't know about Tolford yet, you will by Monday...
Sunday - Joey Hebdo, Spikedrivers, The Randys(!), Old Hundred, Blastronauts, BiBear, Paper Airplane, Stucco Jones, Dane Terry, Descendre..

I'll be there as a vendor also! I'm sharing a booth with 2 crafty friends - Partrice L. and Mara M.
I am so happy to live walking-distance to the park. :)

listened to yesterday's All Sides yesterday with John Petric - I've got to say, I kind of agree with him.
I used to love Comfest, and for years it hasn't been the way it used to be. And I used to think it was just me, but almost everyone I know says the same thing - it just isn't the same.
And I find it hard to believe that NO ONE from Comfest had time to come on and join the debate.
And I stand by my assertion that it is time to start another MUSIC festival.
And, they might stop media from entering the grounds, but they can't stop bloggers!!

The Columbus Music Co-op is way ahead of you.
