Did y'all get that email from the CoC with the YP survey? Does anyone else think that ambassador program sounds interesting? I'm not sure if that's already been discussed here, but I know it would have helped me tremendously when I made my move. CU and RetroMetro were lifesavers, but it would have been great to have an official tour guide when my sister and I came to scout places for me to live. I ended up in Arena Crossing which was a good starter, but had I known then what I know now I wouldn't have wasted a year paying crazy rent in the most affordable city to be a renter :)

Can someone fill me in on what you guys are talking about?

We [Columbus Chamber] sent out a survey to YPs about issues about connecting, opportunities, etc. in Columbus as a way to prioritize and gauge opinions about work that is being done for the Attract and Retain Talent initative http://www.columbus.org for more on the initiative.
We can add you to the list if you're interested, it's meant to be as inclusive as possible.

I might be interested. I would have to know the details.
And I still think all of you organizers should really listen to the outcry for merging some of these groups. I think the participation goes down when you have to attend 15 different meetings in 15 different days for 15 different groups. If you all worked together... you could probably get it to 3 meetings for 1 group... and attendance for those 3 meetings would be high.
Just something I've heard from a ton of the people you are trying to attract.

I agree with artbomb on that. There does seem to be many parrallel groups that if in harmony could evoke a much larger presence and networking ability. I also speak with people in multiple groups and different ones all in the same. Not that the consensus is that any of the yp groups are lacking, but more that the power in numbers and logistics could be far better with combined resources.

We totally get that, and have heard similiar frustrations. The initiative isn't to create another group, just to connect and empower those who already have groups.

Taking from discussion on another thread.....
Can we get all the YP groups together like that scene in Gangs of New York.... and have them all sit in a room and find ways to make this mess coalesce.
I think an open table discussion amongst the leaders of all of these groups... and a possible merger would be very simple.
Have each group identify their priorities as a group... and then see how they each might join. Anything remaining that didn't fit together can become individual committees that meet separately.
Easy.

I would like to start some (I hate to use the word) networking events that don't consist of guys in freshly un-top buttoned striped express shirts exchanging business cards so they can catch a game together.

Sounds good to me.
Lets do it.
How about bowling?
I like bowling.

I like where this is going. Is that place that looks really great by Red Planet as great as it looks?
Posted 4 years ago # -
What the hell is Red Planet?
Are you talking about the asteroid belt?
Posted 4 years ago # -
Red Planet is that resale shop. It's in a plaza next to a really great looking bowling alley. At least I think it's a bowling alley. That place off of 71 is nice as well.
