By Nancy Gilson, The Columbus Dispatch
The 2011-12 season of the Columbus Symphony will blend the new and the traditional for Music Director Jean-Marie Zeitouni.
Leading his first full schedule of concerts since being hired in October, Zeitouni will conduct eight of 12 "Masterworks" programs and one of six "Pops" concerts.
The repertoire for the Masterworks concerts will be largely classical or traditional works. The season will include young guest artists; a new locale, the Southern Theatre, for some concerts; and two new informal series aimed at broadening audiences.

When Jean-Marie Zeitouni was in the second grade, a music teacher noticed a special talent.
The boy had perfect pitch - the ability to recognize and remember any musical note without a reference point.
As music director of the Columbus Symphony, Zeitouni will need pitch-perfect skills to lead the orchestra out of the financial and artistic wilderness of severe budget cuts, musician defections and the firing of its previous maestro, Junichi Hirokami.
Five months into his tenure, the youthful Canadian's point of reference is very much the here and now.
"For me, there are no situations that are unresolvable," said the Montreal native, 37. "What I have to do now is share the passion for the music."
