State rating is highest ever for district

The Columbus Public Schools have received a C on their annual report card, the schools' highest grade ever, district officials said yesterday.
Students' improved test scores have bumped the district over the 80-point threshold to rank it in "continuous improvement" -- the equivalent of a C on the state's ranking system.
Test scores from the 2006-2007 school year have earned the district a performance index score of 80.5 points. The previous school year, the district earned 79.2 points, putting it in "academic watch" or a D-ranking for the fourth year in a row.
Obviously there's still a long way to go, but for me, this is great news. I'm glad to hear that the district is showing improvement and moving in the overall right direction. It's obviously not a HUGE jump (rating went from 79.2 to 80.5, just barely crossing the threshold), but still...
