When the 31st annual Pride Parade stepped off on High Street yesterday, it didn’t just celebrate members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. The event also honored their allies. And according to gay-rights group Stonewall Columbus, the city is full of them.

For those who attended Pride, or couldn't, I took a bunch of shots of the parade and festival on Saturday, and Bat-N-Rouge, the drag softball fundraiser on Sunday.

Was hoping you'd do this again. I never seem to get there and am ALWAYS grateful to see it through your eyes.

I'll post a few of my thoughts of the festival after I get some dinner in my body.
FYI: The best way to view the shots on Flicker is in "lightbox" mode. Once you've clicked on a photo, just type an "L", the photos are surrounded in a black box for better viewing. Then just use the directional arrow to page through the shots.

I missed everyone marching at the end of the parade this year. The police were following right behind the last float making everyone clear High street.

A few thoughts of the parade and festival:
- It seemed like it was the largest attended thus far, in parade participants, attendees, vendors and exhibitors. Goodale Park had the look and feel of a scaled down ComFest, which is pretty impressive.
- Unlike ComFest, there was little respect for the park, which is embarrassing. And while there was a serious lack of recycling containers and staff to monitor them like ComFest, people just left their trash and recyclables (including breakable glass bottles) wherever they were camped out. It was shocking to see this just a week before ComFest.

One of the many pockets of leftovers all over the park
Overflowing trash container with recyclables- The parade route this year, as in every year, was trashed by the people on the sidelines, and was littered with all kinds of goodies that were handed out or thrown to spectators - candy, condoms, postcards, literature, chips, beads, wristbands - you name it. A cleaning crew and street sweepers followed the parade route to clear all the debris. What a waste! Even the pineapple drinks at the festival. They were wildly popular, but large pineapple skins were tossed in the trash, with no chance to be composted.

- I suggest that they appoint a GLBT recycling czar (TomOver?) next year to lessen the festival's footprint, and addressing some of these issues.
- Despite all the mess, I had a really great time and enjoyed the excitement overflowing around me. A lot of planning went into last weekend, and those involved should be proud of their efforts.
- The Fabulous Johnson Brothers were one of the highlights of the day. They were a real treat to listen to and watch, and allowed the Capital Pride Band, tubas, drums and all, to play a set with them.

I got to see a baby albino raccoon, brought from Noah's Ark Sanctuary, that made me swoon.

The park trashing is lame.
Couple that with the fact that my fiancee and I were planning on volunteering for the "green team" recycle volunteers, but all the spots were taken to volunteer. Looks like they could have used more help...Nice marmot.

Looks like they could have used more help...Park trashing and street trashing are lame. I didn't realize that they had "green team" members for the Pride Festival. I saw two guys in Rumpke shirts, though.
When you said volunteering, you wouldn't be referring to ComFest this weekend, per chance?
