i'm going to be running my first half marathon in columbus, second ever (my first was in shanghai back in 2000).
how is your training going? my long runs are up to 9 miles and i'm aiming for 11 miles this sunday. any good routes you wanna share? anyone ese use dailymile.com?

I'm running the full marathon this year, my big training run is this weekend (20). That one always freaks me out...
Sounds like your training is going well for the half, 11 miles three weeks out is a great place to be.
I love the change in the course last year, also excited to know we can use ipods finally.

I'm looking forward to running the 1/2 again! I began training in June, 2008 and was able to run in the 1/2 marathon last year and I really enjoyed myself. It's the first regular exercise I've done since high school (28 years ago - yikes). I dropped 25 lbs, my BP went from 140/110 to 120/75 and I can eat what I want. On October 1st last year I actually quit smoking - it made training a bit easier! Just this past spring my wife and I ran the Cleveland Marathon. It's been a pretty healthful mid-life crisis!

Man, we need a CU runners club! Sounds like there's people at all levels. Where were y'all 2 years ago when I did mine?? :(
I'm thinking group runs for the Cap City half next May. Those long runs can get boring week after week. Even if everyone's at their own pace, if we do out and backs we'll have some camaraderie along the way. Wheels are churning now! Yay!

I'm registered for the full but might drop down to the half. I did 14 last weekend with a friend along the marathon route (starting at Broad St.) and it looks like a terrific course. As for routes, I would recommend Highbanks for the hills. I do fewer miles but get a great workout.
@shmack - I love dailymile! I'm not very consistent at using it though. I only like to post my good runs. :)
@thepiece -- Good luck this weekend. I'm hoping to get a 20 mile run in this weekend too. My problem is that I lose interest in running around mile 15-16. *sigh*

I'm doing my first half this year. 10 mile run tomorrow. My favorite route so far starts in the Short North, circles Goodale, heads south on Neil to North Bank, along the river to Broad, then shoots down High to Deschler, around Schiller, back to High and then back to the Short North.
Running club sounds awesome. The folks at O'Shaughnessy's are welcome to hosting something similar to the clubs below...I just have not had the time to organize and do not foresee it in the near future as I seem to have once again overextended myself...however, if anyone else has the hankering, I can give you contact #s. Just DM me.

I wish I was running this race - I've run the 1/2 marathon in the spring the past 4 years and always plan on training for this race but Pride/Comfest/RWB on consecutive weekends plus a beach vacation in early September seems to derail. Maybe next year.
As an aside - I volunteered to work the race this year and the volunteer coordinator immediately replied asking me to suggest others - it looks from their volunteer page that they are in serious need of helpers - traffic control, water stations, etc. I know when I run the 1/2 I really appreciate people handing me water as I run by, and certainly appreciate the folks that keep the cars out of the runners way!

Blasted out of my sweet dreams this morning by the live music blaring from the loudspeakers two blocks down the street at the mile 8 marker. Have already chased away two runners who dropped their drawers and urinated behind the dumpster in our alley. Expect to have to pick up again this year all the abandoned water bottles and sweat jackets, pants and other assorted sports wear that littered the raceway for blocks in all directions after last years event. Good luck to everyone who is running. Hope they reroute things next year.

I'm currently sitting at Luck Brothers in Grandview. Marathoners are still going past in drips and drabs. The band outside has quieted down (they were excellent) and so far nobody has ambled past in a gorilla suit like last year. Congrats to everyone who is MUCH stronger than I and thank you to the volunteers keeping them safe.

I dono... the litter and the people pissing all over are things that probably could (and should) be addressed by the organizers.. a "pack it in/pack it out" philosophy could be preached along with trash, recycle and donation receptacles[1] as well as restroom facilities[2] liberally placed on the route.
1 - people discard their sportswear? weird.
2 - if NYC can deal with it, so can we.

Yeah, people peeing on my stuff isn't something I'd normally attribute to the Urban Experience.
I think the Marathon is cool, the noise/traffic inconvenience/whatever is par for the course that I'm fine with, but trash and urinating runners, not so much.

I ran the half marathon this morning. Even for the bitter cold, the crowds were great!!! I got home in time to shower and head back out to cheer on those running the full. I wish I had the privilege of living right on the course so I could cheer folks from my front porch. Maybe all of you should try running the race one year and see what it is all about.

The music in goodale park was much louder than comfest from my place, but i'm guessing that's because it was right out by the street.
Not that big of a deal to me, but I was thinking I'd really hate that at 10:00 AM if I lived around here and worked nights.
