Columbus’ Homicides Dropped Last Year

The number of homicides in Ohio’s capital of Columbus dipped slightly in 2011 to 92 murders, which is an average year for the city. The Columbus Dispatch reports that as of Friday, Columbus led both Cincinnati and Cleveland in homicides. According to their respective police departments, Cincinnati had 66 and Cleveland, 91.

Murders in Detroit jumped from 308 in 2010 to at least 346 in 2011, an average of about three more per month, according to Detroit Police Department statistics and police reports.Police are expected to release the official 2011 figures this week, but an unofficial tally shows the increase over 2010 will likely be around 15 percent, making the city's murder rate about 48 for every 100,000 residents.
But overall, crime in the US is continuing a downward trend.

I think that improved crime fighting technology - cameras, dna, computer data bases all act as a fairly large deterrent and have greatly evolved over the lasr 20 years.

ATLANTA — For the first time in almost half a century, homicide has fallen off the list of the nation’s top 15 causes of death, bumped by a lung illness that often develops in elderly people who have choked on their food.The 2010 list, released by the government Wednesday, reflects at least two major trends: Murders are down, and deaths from certain diseases are on the rise as the population ages, health authorities said.
Homicide was overtaken at No. 15 by pneumonitis, seen mainly in people 75 and older. It happens when food or vomit goes down the windpipe and causes deadly damage to the lungs.
This is the first time since 1965 that homicide failed to make the list, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

those aren't deterrents.law enforcement doesn't deter crime.
it may seem it would deter crime,but it doesn't.
if law enforcement deterred crime,they would put themselves out of business.
and law enforcement is a big business.
since homicides are down,lawmakers will now turn some misdemeanors into felonies,to keep the fed money rolling in.
watch what happens.

A friend of mine was walking downtown talking on his cell phone. Some guy walked up behind him and grabbed the cell phone then stuck a gun in my friend's face and wanted his wallet. When my friend went to the police and described the guy, the police said " oh yeah, thats "Bubba" and did not do one thing to the guy.
Whats the deal with that?

So now he was on campus... Sounds like lying to me. If your robbed at gunpoint and the police know the suspect they will treat it pretty seriously. They may not be able to immediately find him but I guarantee they wouldn't just dismiss it in the fashion you had explained. You need to keep your stories straight around here..
