I had my first Columbus Fiat 500 siting this morning. It was going south on Summit around 8:30. Lipstick red and temporary tags; I thought it looked good.
I'm wary of calling cars like this subcompacts though. They might be among the smallest cars available in the U.S, but they're really not that small. They're certainly not small in the same way that the original Rabbit, Civic, Chevette, Yugo, Sprint, Fiat 500, or Mini Coopers were.
They aren't small? Huh, now I need to see one... It definitely had that Smart Car scale look to me, but it's so hard to judge in just seeing a picture.
And, I have to wonder if those uber teeny cars are a thing of the past, simply because of the safety innovations that are packed into even the smallest vehicles.
I remember my Mom's bug green 1980 Accord Hatchback - as the "large" entry for Honda in those days, it was probably about the size of their Fit now. My brother's Rabbit was a thin tin can filled with seats on wheels. I don't know that he had that thing running more than 36 hours consecutively.
