I'm not sure if people know that one our city's best food bloggers has been seriously ill for a few months now.
I just want to ask everyone to pray/send good thoughts/chant/whatever your method of invoking healing is and get to it. Becke has done so much for our city for years now and deserves all the healing we can send her way.

I don't know Becke very well (I've seen her at food events but we've never chatted) but I do hope she improves and can get back to the food blogging she clearly enjoys. It seems the last few months have brought a cascade of problems; it would be really discouraging.

Becke seemed to have a hard time getting around San Francisco during the food bloggers conference last November. And the cold shoulder she received and nasty comments aimed at her by other bloggers certainly didn't help her state of mind. Unwarranted for the sweet, intelligent person many of us know.
My thoughts are with her, as well as you, Lisa. I hope life has been good to you after taking a break from the food blogging world.

Really sorry to hear this.
We visited her about 3 weeks ago (after she was released from her first stay at the hospital), and it seemed then as though she might've been on the mend. At the time, she described herself as 'full of piss and vinegar'... and that fighting spirit was thoroughly in evidence.
I hope that spirit is still entirely intact and serving her well right now. Sending all my best her way.

Just thought I would give an update, just from what I know from Paul's FB page...
Becke is still in ICU at OSU; in addition to her previous condition (my understanding is that most of the original problems stemmed from severe protein malnutrition; that's a completely simplified explanation) she has pneumonia and is currently heavily sedated; she has been on a ventilator for about a week now. It looks like they are going to start lowering the sedative in hopes they can remove the ventilator.
I really don't know exactly what can be done to help Paul and Becke; I assume it will probably be awhile before she can have visitors. I do think it would be great if we sent her cards and artwork and stuff so that she has encouraging things to look at when she wakes up, instead of just hospital walls. Honestly I don't even know if there can be cards and stuff in ICU, I don't have much experience.
The last time I talked to Becke she was concerned about her flowers and her garden, and I can't imagine Paul feels like cooking. So maybe I'd suggest someone out there can help offer Paul some Dine Originals gift cards or North Market or both....in addition to all of this, Paul was laid off this past year.
I hope we're able help the Foodies.

Becke's husband, Paul, has been updating his Facebook page with reports on her health daily. There's a lot of info there (much of it too technical for me to interpret), and from what I could gather she's still in the ICU, and has been dealing with a nagging infection.

Sadly Becke is still in the ICU and on the ventilator. It does sound like she is making some small improvements. Please keep her in your thoughts.
