Just got back. Weather is gorgeous. Lines are longish but perfectly reasonable. Headed back after work for dinner.

Went to families (chicken and waffles). Probably only had 7 or 8 people in front of me but it took nearly 45 minutes to get through line and get my food. HORRIBLE experience. All other lines seemed much quicker. I probably wont be back tonight now.

Photos!

Thanks for pics Walker, gives me an idea on how the lines are. Looks much better then last year. Hope it thins out when I get there :)

Those photos were mostly taken between 1:15 and 1:45 as the lunch crowd was starting to thin out, though some trucks still looked like they had 20-25 people deep. Definitely thinned out around 2pm.
If you don't want lines, I'd say go for early dinner between 3pm and 5pm if possible.
Otherwise, if the weather stays nice, I can see it getting a little crazy again like last year. But maybe not quite as bad. ;)
I do like the way things are arranged this year. Definitely better to see everyone spread out a bit more.

Two of my favorite t-shirts were bought at the fest last year at the Make Believe Monster's booth... so don't forget about the awesome non-food vendors as well!

Lines are getting longer, still bearable though and the people in line seem to be happy and talkative.
a fun time

Had a great time there this afternoon. A lot of fun meeting up with PatientZero, Porky and DavidF. The Jerk Chicken Slider from "Swoop" was great - wish it had a bit more bite but still great flavor. Also tried the Ohio Meatballs in ginger sauce from "Carrot Cuisine" and they were absolutely delicious. Also grabbed some chicken wings from "Chicken and Waffles" but saving those for later. I agree, everyone seemed pleasant, the lines weren't too long and the breeze was delightful.

Sounds like overall it went a lot more smoothly this year. Very cool.
Wonder what the turnout was like?

Having spent 7+ hours there yesterday, I feel confident in saying that it went much more smoothly than last year. The organizers did a great job of taking last year's concerns to heart and adjusting accordingly.
I'm terrible at guessing group sizes, but I wouldn't be surprised attendance was equal to or greater than last year - especially since they were open for (a booming) lunch this time.

Very cool.I think there will always be people who were displeased with the wait, because some lines are just longer then others, dependent on the efficiency of the staff and the popularity of the food. But I can say for certainty that it was a success for me and my friends. Last year spent 2+ hours in the cheesy truck line, only to give up extremely frustrated and leave with no food. We spent our money in German village. This year spent about 4 hours, hit 4 trucks (lotsa lobsta, short north bagel, nosh box and krazy monkey) and I left full. My friends, with a 4 year old son, were able to get him and themselves food. We stayed till 10 pm. I think they hit about 3 trucks. And yesterday's weather is what I want every festival to have during the summertime!
Oddly enough, krazy monkey was the longest wait for me, and I just wanted some smoothies. And a lot of friends said to avoid seafood on a summer day, but lotsa lobsta's lobsta roll was goo-uu-ood!

Lynne and I had a great time there yesterday. Met up with Patient Zero and jmak (sorry we missed you Porky). Seemed like the lines were reasonable and that everyone was having a good time. We were there 3-5 and Sophies was running out of almost everything, several of the trucks had severely truncated their menus, and Ray Ray's was expecting someone to be bringing them several more briskets. I don't know how the dinner crowd went, but I'd say all in all, this was an overwhelming success.

Overall I would say it was a really successful event and there were a lot of improvements from last year. We had a great time and it was fun to see so many CU friends. It got really busy around 7pm which seemed to be peak dinner time but there were still lines that were reasonable and plenty of space to spread out in the park and find a quieter grassy spot to sit and eat.
Only a couple of minor criticisms that we heard:
1) There weren't any sodas available at the drink stations - only beer or water and the lines for those got pretty long in the evening.
2) A lot of the trucks didn't seem to know about the refrigerated truck storage option and if they had they would have been able to resupply during the afternoon.
3) That there weren't any event maps posted. People kept asking us for maps of the event and for directions to the restrooms.Posted 11 months ago # -
I think this is a great event and I hope it continues. That being said, can anyone explain the rationale behind making non-alcoholic beverages so hard to obtain? I completely understand why special care would be taken in serving beer, but why can't the trucks themselves sell water or soda? Or why can't there be a way to quickly and easily purchase water with cash? Just curious.

In terms of the map, please improve upon the map you shared on facebook. It was confusing and if that were used on site, it would have confused attendees.
I have to also say I love that there are parts of the park (west side of the park) that are less congested. Perfect for families to let their kids run around.

We got lucky with the weather, but what if it was 95 degrees? Water needs to be readily available at all stations IMO.

Nice little write up in the dispatch (with the typical disapproving commenter).
