I’ll admit to a bit of discomfort with 10-best lists, and never more so than when restaurants are the subject. After all, what makes for a great restaurant? Is it the meticulous service, impeccable culinary technique, tremendous wine list and exceptional ambience found at places like The Refectory? Or, is it the straightforward pleasure of biting into a big pile of what may well be the best al pastor east of the Mississippi while sitting on a bar stool outside at Los Guachos?

Since I have eaten at a good number of these places I will post my feelings about them.

10) I usually agree on this place, but NYE was one of the worst dining experiences ever. This place usually does have great food, and great value, but not on NYE.

9)Skillet is very good, my only gripe with it is there does not seem to be enough meat on the menu? The ingrediants and skill used in the prep are great, i just wish more meals were classic meals? I feel like Skillet needs way more meat dishes, and more classic meat dishes. I think they are tyring to appeal to a different subset of the population than me I guess.

8)Stopped trying to eat BBQ in the midwest around 10 years ago, will not try.

7) Rossi was great, with their recent price increases (Rossi Burger with fries is now $12) I have stopped going. It was a great value, especially for the burger, but 12 bucks? Come on son.
6) NEver even heard of this place, I will try it.

5) Not a fan of any African food whatsoever, will not be eating this.

4) See bbq post, though I tend to give pizza places a shot. I will try this place.

3) Creole Kitchen in the only cajun / creole worth eating in the city. Great place, friendly owner and staff. I have no complaints about it except for the fact that it is hot as hell in there during the summer.

2) Never been, and always wondered about it as well, I think I will try it soon.

Number 11: All you can eat buffet at La Plaza Tapatia.

20 things minimum, changes every time I go, good chance to get Tres Leches cake on the buffet, most times have a make your own posole/tortilla soup station, only 8.95. Not a chain experience. Dont tell anyone.

Honorable Mention:
Taste of Grandview- picture all the Grandview places with 2-3 dollar tasting plates
A summer night at Milestone 229 with kids in the fountains
Christmas at the Commons with all the trucks.

For the same reason you've come to find that Creole Kitchen is the sole go-to in town for Creole, you should give Ray Ray's a shot for BBQ.

Africa's a big continent. If you prefer some Asian cuisines over others, you'll almost certainly prefer some African cuisines to others. We've taken over 100 groups of people to Solay to try their food, and a surprising number find it to be their favorite of a 5 restaurant tour that also includes Vietnamese, Indian, Nigerian, and Mexican. I can almost promise you that, whatever you're thinking of when you think of 'African' food, Solay isn't it.

The last two times we've had out of town visitors we've treated them to Solay Cafe and it's been fantastic --and impressed two of the most critical "big city" palates I know.

Since Columbus has one of the largest Somali populations in America, I've come to think of Somali food as a distinctly local taste to showcase. Even diverse food-centric towns such as San Francisco aren't necessarily going to out do us when it comes to African food.

(But if I never run into BV at Solay, or any other African restaurant it won't exactly make me cry...)

They'll be happy to help you chose your entrees there, but Bear is right, the goat is a winner.

I'd recommend getting it on a platter with the spinach, the buttered flatbread, a plate of sambusas (meat samosas) for an appetizer and a cup of the Somali tea.
