Press Release:
Ohio 12th District Congressional Candidate Has Film Accepted to the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival; Plans Sequel Based On Current Campaign
Columbus, OH – April 21, 2010 – Travis Irvine, a Columbus native and current Libertarian Party candidate for U.S. Congress, will have his documentary American Mayor featured at the Short Film Corner in Cannes, Franceâ€â€part of the world famous Festival de Cannes. The 35-minute short produced by Irvine's locally headquartered production company – Overbites Pictures, LLC – centers on his 2007 campaign for Mayor of Bexley, Ohio. The documentary was also accepted into this year's Atlanta International Documentary Film Festival, known as DocuFest, in Georgia.
While visiting Cannes from May 11th through the 20th, Irvine hopes to land a distribution deal for American Mayor, as well as secure funding for a possible sequel, American Congressmanâ€â€a film chronicling his congressional campaign in Ohio’s 12th District. Irvine is currently pursuing the Libertarian party nomination, which will be decided on May 4th in a historic primary election. The upcoming vote marks the first time Libertarian candidates will be on an Ohio primary ballot.
However, this will not be Irvine’s first trip to Cannes. Three years ago Irvine attended the Festival de Cannes to promote the DVD release of his directorial debut, COONS! Night of the Bandits of the Nightâ€â€a comedy/horror movie about killer raccoons, shot in Columbus and released by the famously independent TROMA Entertainment.
Aside from his political campaigns and forays into the film industry, Irvine recently returned from Abuja, Nigeria where he taught Nigerian film students how to use the popular editing program Final Cut Pro. His trip also produced a series of short videos entitled The Nigeria Show! which can currently be found on the website funnyordie.com.
Fellow Columbus-based Overbites Pictures, LLC producer Colin Scianamblo will accompany Irvine to Cannes to pitch additional projects for the company, possibly leading to more future film productions in the Central
Ohio area.
Irvine's Congressional campaign site, http://www.irvineforcongress.com, is still under construction. For more information on American Mayor and Irvine’s 2007 campaign, go to http://www.americanmayor.biz.
