Hmm. One theory. Karl is Oneillsp96's dad. And he wants him to get a real job, perhaps joining the family business selling used cars and stop following his foolish dreams of creating a documentary film.
If made in the 80's, I could see David Odgen Steirs as Karl, and a young John Cusack as the son.
Oh wait, they already made that movie.

Hipsters can't knock people out. Form-fitting flannel shirts restrict the amount of follow-through with the arms and I'm pretty sure punching someone "ironically" isn't worth the risk of retaliatory damage to your nerd glasses. ;-)
