I wonder if the alive and TOP will follow suit, since they are also Dispatch properties now...

BTW when banks invest in LIHTC Low income tax credit housing, not only do they get massive tax breaks but they also own a significant chunk of the housing through a shell llc and make $$$$ on voucher payments. So not really out of the goodness of their hearts....Not all of Huntington investments in low income housing are part of cra and not all investments are in the form of tax credits. Read up, especially regarding the deal with osu. Of course banks could never do anything good for the community....
Like walker said though, back on topic...

Oh, and doe the eco-conscious among us Huntington just established their own "ecological strategy" etf. Of course, another bad thing banks do. Again, if dispatch and aep followed this lead you wouldn't see this much birthing about them.

The same day Dispatch puts up this paywall, I go to my Huntington account online and get forced to sign an agreement to get all communication from them electronically. If you want bank statements mailed to you, you can no longer use their online banking. Wow, strong-arm tactics all over town.

So wait. It is wrong to talk about local institutions that are treating their customers right, when there are 2 recenteexamples of other institutions treating customers poorly? If anything dispatch should follow Huntington lead regarding customer service and pricing of products. That is ridiculous to say an example of a customer friendly business should nth be brought up in this topic. If that is the case no Liz lesser location should ever be brought up in a topic about aep.Sharing an example is fine.
If you guys want to debate the merits of Huntington checking accounts in depth, it's better suited for starting a new thread.
Thanks.

This old man subscribes because fetching the paper off of the front porch every morning after I make the coffee is a part of my life. My kids like the funnies, and I'll subject the 10 year old to the occasional article (Bugatti; heck ya). I use the sports section in my chimney charcoal lighter and recycle the rest. I preferred the Citizen Journal, not just because it was the morning paper. The Dispatch is what we've got. The Plain Dealer, Beacon Journal, etc., are all valuable resources, but they might have a statehouse reporter at best. The Dispatch cares about Columbus, maybe not the same way you or I do, but it is a resource that I don't mind supporting.
Funny, the only time I look at the version on the internets is when the paper is late or I want to link to it here or on the facebooks.Posted 10 months ago # -
I'm one of those people who finally paid up when the NYTimes instituted their paywall. I know I could save the money and find a work-around, but I honestly WANT to pay for the service that the Times provides.
That being said, the Dispatch is no NYTimes. It's nowhere close to being comparable. Even so, I might be willing to support the Dispatch paywall if it seemed like they had actually given any thought to how it would work. Instead, like much what passes for reporting at the paper, the rollout seems half-assed.
First, the only sign I'm aware of that this was happening was when I suddenly got blocked from reading a story this morning. By comparison, everyone knew about the NYTimes paywall months in advance. Unlike the Dispatch there was no surprise.
Second, as everyone else has already stated, their pricing structure makes no sense. Home delivery doesn't include digital access. Digital access costs the same as home delivery though. But if you want home delivery AND digital access the price barely goes up! (And it goes down if you get Sunday only delivery.)
I am ready and willing to pay for content. Eager to pay even. I want to pay for good journalism. The Dispatch however is not good journalism, and as this move shows, it's not good business either.

I just noticed that the Circleville Herald charges $9.99 for 28 days of online access.

So, I go to dispatch.com for part of my local news. Now, they are asking me to pay?? Does anyone know a work-around for this? I really look forward to their Thursday dining features but do not want to pay for the paper or their online site......"Thanks for being a frequent visitor to dispatch.com! Not sure if every section/article is included, but you can access significant Dispatch content through NewsBank via the Columbus Library site with you library card.

So it turns out that if you already have a print subscription, and you call the Dispatch and wait on hold for a very, very long time (they don't let you cancel online), and you tell them that you want to cancel your subscription because they are charging for online content, then they will offer to continue your paper subscription + online access for the same price you are paying now. (By the time the conversation got to that point, I was irritated enough that I cancelled anyway).
I also subscribe to the New York Times and if I recall correctly, when they started charging for online access it was only for folks who did not already have a print subscription.

I've paid for 7-days a week home delivery for the 14 years that I've lived in Columbus (and never bothered to ask for a discount), but several days a week I leave for work before the paper is delivered.... I used to enjoy reading the e-edition at my computer at lunch, but now I'm being forced to pay extra for that privilege?!?
What's up, Wolfe family, is Romney demanding an extra donation this month and this is how you are going to cover it?

What about the iPhone app? It seems to let me keep reading articles. Did they just forget about it?
