I hated being a team without a sponsor.
Glidden was their previous jersey sponsor...

I'm just waiting for the free shaving cream promotion...
Glidden's sponsorship ended in 2010 so last year was no sponsor. Sad, empty kits. This, along with all the other awesomeness that has happened in the offseason, feels like some magic in the making.
Is it March 24th yet?!?
Oh! I didn't realize there was a blank spot on the jerseys last year. ;) Shows how much attention I pay to the Crew. Doh!

Wait, when did this happen?
A couple of months ago. They are aiming for a "more authentic" soccer experience, and are operating under the misconception that the only "authentic" soccer experience is found with big clubs in western Europe. I didn't care much for the Crewzers myself, but plenty of "authentic" clubs around the world have cheerleaders.
Was it so much about Euro snobbishness or the overall trashiness of the Crewzers? I don't have a problem with hot chicks to engage the crowd (the dads love them), but can we round up some cute ones like the Blue Jackets get, wearing something appropriate for the event? Those synthetic knee high boots just screamed soccer.
I really think it's the Eurosnob factor.
The jersey sponsorship is great. I'm glad to see a company that to be quite honest I had no idea was based in columbus step up. I'd love to see a stadium sponsor next although I'm sure thats a much bigger undertaking. It really sounds like the front office is attempting to improve their game this offseason.
As far as the crewzers go, I have no problem keeping them for public appearances and to promote the crew but I really couldn't stand them at the games. They just clapped and danced along to the nordecke and then did their halftime dance. I'm sure some people liked them and they worked hard on their routines but I can't remember a game in which people didn't make fun of them, fun of the crew for having them,or just complained about them in general. It was either they weren't hot, they were annoying, completely pointless etc.. This was from all age groups and sexes as well. I've heard that getting rid of them was one of the number one suggestions from fans in improving stadium experience. I don't think this was eurosnobiness from the front office.

3LM has done a phenomenal job of embracing soccer fans since they opened a few months ago. I was skeptical at first - a soccer bar in the Arena District?!? - but they've managed to create an environment that has none of the ick factor I find in most AD establishments. Great service and a really tasty menu, can't ask for much more. We're stoked to watch the first game of the season there! Let's go Crew!!

What "authentic" clubs around the world have cheerleaders? I'll be honest, I've never seen any watching games from any leagues in Europe or South America, and I watch a LOT of soccer.

I am parcel to Fado for soccer, but I will have to check this place out once to see what it's about.
For sure. Supporting all the establishments in town that cater to us is important. Fado definitely has it's own vibe. Not a big fan of it (nor the driving to Easton from downtown) here, but I'm glad in the last year/18 months there are more options to please the diverse tastes of soccer fans in Columbus.
