Columbus Civic Theater is proud to open its 4th Season with George Bernard Shaw's comic examination of the romance and the reality of wartime and men of war, Arms and the Man.
Raina Petkoff, daughter of the noble and wealthy Petkoff family, plans to marry the dashing and handsome Major Sergius Saranoff of the Bulgarian army. Near the end of the conflict, as the defeated Serbians are fleeing, a mercenary Swiss captain of the Serbian forces climbs her balcony to hide from his Bulgarian pursuers. He threatens her if she will not hide him. She decries his cowardice but agrees; when he greedily gobbles up offered chocolates, she derisively calls him a "chocolate creme soldier." The results of this late-night encounter change everyone's plans: Raina's, the Swiss captain's, Maj. Saranoff's, her parents'-- even the Petkoff servants'. Another witty comedy from the master of dry Victorian English humor!
Arms and the Man plays Thursday through Saturday nights at 8:00 PM, and Sundays at 2:00 PM through February 5th.
