Metro may become its own high school

Students might no longer need permission from their school districts to attend a countywide science- and math-focused high school. And those living beyond Franklin County soon could apply to Metro Early College High School, too.
Those changes would come if officials convert Metro, which is technically a program, into its own state-funded school starting next fall. The move wouldn’t affect its current programming and students still would be able to play sports at their home school, Principal Aimee Kennedy told parents in a letter yesterday.
