I've been to the DAS auctions before. There are deals to be found if you know what you are buying. I was the highest bidder on a Bogen video tripod - $50. Some things are paletized and maybe you don't need everything on the pallet, but if you are the highest bidder - it's yours.
There are great deals on furniture. I'm assuming you know how auctions work. Listen real carefully. They usually try to sell individual units first, then if there are no bidders, they offer the entire row of (chairs, desks, caabinets, whatever) for auction. It's conceivable to get an entire row of desks for $20 if there are no other bidders.
There's usually some weird stuff, too. In the past, I've seen an 1800's microscope, an electron microscope, video conference broadcast system, boxes of lighters and knives, reel to reel recorders, etc.
Pick up some coffee and get there early to find a decent parking space, as DAS is a big facility.
