This Thursday at 6 PM, St James Tavern will be tapping a cask of the 7th installment of Columbus Brewing Company's Hop Odyssey, The Hungry Hefe. The Hungry Hefe is a Bavarian sytle Hefe, finishing at about 6% ABV. The Hungry Hefe uses a combination of hops, Amarillo and the rare Sorcahi Ace. Sorachi Ace may sound familiar to some hop heads out there, as Brooklyn Brewery recently released their limited release Sorachi Ace Saison using this extraordinary hop. The Sorachi Ace hop is a rare Japanese bred hop which tends to have somewhat a lemony and minty character. This is one beer that you won't want to miss trying!
Columbus Brewing Companies Hop Odyssey began with a simple idea, to create a series of hoppy beers. At first it looked like it was going to be the same base beer and twelve different hops. Well that has been done by others and the results can often be boring. Then came an epiphany, 2010: A Hop Odyssey, an exploration of the relationship between malt and hops. You will be able to find these limited beers as they are released on the first Thursday of every month. Twelve months, twelve different hoppy beers, so keep your eye out for the Columbus Brewing Company Hop Odyssey tap handles at your local watering hole!
We hope to see everyone at the James tomorrow to try this delicious Bavarian sytle Hefe! Cheers!
