I was looking for info on Columbus Beerfest and stumbled on this. It looks similar. It seems to have an exceptional list of brewers (no crap) and its on a different date (so you can do both) :

Can anyone compare this to beerfest? Looks like they have had it before.

I don't think the mrs will greenlight two beer festivals within a month...

I've been to AleFest but not Beerfest. Based on my experience at AleFest and what I've heard about Beerfest, I'd say AleFest. More for people interested in good craft beer and not just drinking a lot of it. But I've heard the Beerfest event has seen improvements so who knows at this point.

I've been to both. I went to AleFest in 2010 and the first Beerfest in the spring of 2010. They are very different events. First off AleFest is much less crowded and occurs during the afternoon ending as I recall before it got too dark out while Beerfest is extremely crowded/loud and went till 11pm or so. AleFest had a single musician playing guitar and singing while Beerfest had a band which made it hard to talk to others. Overall I got the impression that AleFest was for people who were really into beer while Beerfest seemed like a kegger w/most people there to get trashed.

However, AleFest is at the Aladin's Shriners complex ballroom which is very dated and depressing looking. I really can't emphasize how much I disliked the AleFest location.

Had a great time at both last year. Alefest is definitely metered, but more informative/edumacational. If you don't get tired of beer, go to both. Seasonals will change in the next (hopslam) few (hopslam) weeks...

Thanks guys, sounds like Alefest may be more refined. I have been to beerfest and it did seem that beerfest was more about drinking and less about the beer. I may give Alefest a shot as I don't know much about craft beer. I think 20 samples may be more than enough for this lightwieght.
