Hello,
If anyone is at a fast food restaurant today or over the weekend, can you post or PM me the price for a cup of coffee? Medium would be ideal, but any info would be much appreciated.
thanks!

Here's why I'd like this: we have a pay what you want system for coffee and some folks don't want to pay anything. we're hoping to nudge them to contribute SOMETHING without turning into coffee nazis. The sign would be like McD's=$, BK=$, etc.

if you are going to have a "pay what you want" system, then invariably, people are not going to want to pay anything. that is entirely within their right under that system. i mean its not "pay what you want over 50 cents"
if you want everyone to pay, id say just make it a dollar. thats less than what you'd get at starbucks or whatever, and more than nothing.

BTW, according to a friend in the coffee biz, prices will go up dramatically this year due to some kind of stuff happening in commodities trading (which I totally don't understand).

Not to tell you how to run your biz, but have you ever tried selling resusable/sealable cups with your logo on them ?

$ 2.99, then refills are just 50 cents then ?
Be surprised how many you can sell, and also how many people either lose them or forget to bring them in.

It's non-profit...maybe ten people and most everyone uses her/his own cups. Previous notes have been successful, but contributions diminish after a few weeks. As the 'sign girl', I've found that the more direction given, the more likely contributions.

I get coffee at speedway when I don't want to use the press I keep at work.
20oz (large for most places) is $1.29 (recently up from $1.19.)

I say just figure out roughly how much is being spent on coffee divide that by roughly how many cups are made then add a little... I think it is easier to give someone a somewhat random but cheap price to hit rather than to have to figure it out on their own...
We use to do something similar back in the day with soda. I think we said $.25 per can. This was slightly more than we could usually buy it for... Also, over time we would build up a little cash in the till and buy pizza or something... I could see doughnuts in your case... The nice thing was you could throw a dollar in the till and know that you had 4 on credit...

Why not just "suggested donation $X"?

I paid $2.05 for a medium at Caribou.
I like Snarf's idea - get a French press for your desk and let everyone else fend for themselves. I guess I'm a libertarian when it comes to coffee.
