Hello there. New to Columbus. Looking for a fun place to go not far from home. I live in the Northwest area and would prefer not going downtown. Any suggestions?

Thanks Anne!!!!
Please allow for a shameless plug here, but Habit may be your spot. Located on 1973Henderson Rd (Onyx), Habit offers a weekly rotation of local, regional and international electronic dance music DJ’s each Thursday in a GREAT club enviroment. If that is your thing, we’d love to have you stop by.

My experience at many suburban bars and clubs has made me arrive at the conclusion that most, if not all suck majorly. Driving to a strip center to socialize in an "ordinary" bar is not that appealing to me, but to each his own. Good luck.
FYI, be careful. Cops like to stake out the parking lots. Three of my friends have DUI's because of that.

Most of the suburb club experiences I have had have been of the sub-par variety. But I think Onyx is truly the exception. The place is beautiful and I feel the lighting and sound set-up will match if not exceed any other club in Columbus. As far as the DUI thing cops stake out everywhere. I would think there's more focus on the downtown hot spots than suburban locations but I am no expert by far.
Of course, my opinion is slanted. jpizzow, if you want to check it out sometime IM me. Hopefully we can change your view

Don't get me wrong. I've been to Onyx and think it's pretty cool. I would probably go back. I was just speaking of my overall experience.

onyx is a chill place, if you wanna dance you can dance, if you wanna kick it, play pool, people watch, etc. you can do that too, most people ive met there have had a pretty judgement-free vibe.
every time ive gone there in the past couple weeks one liquor company or another has been running promo on their drinks so thats always a plus. but the biggest issue for me is parking, as ive been towed or ticketed more than id like downtown. really harshes the vibe when you have to walk over to the towing company and fork over 115 bucks cash to get your car out.

The last few times I have been in the AD on a Saturday night, it was $3 all night in a garage and a 5 minute walk to the main drag. South end of the Short North it's usually the bank of meters along Buttles by the park. Unless they changed the enforcement hours, later at night on the weekends it's pretty easy to park there and not get towed.

I was just speaking of my overall experience. Is that the one with the open patio in the middle that kind of freaks you out cause it takes you so long to realize you are outside? I vaguely remember being dragged there and I think it Onyx. If it was, it wasn't a bad place.

I've never parked more than a 5 minute walk away for free. Not quite as easy as a strip-mall style parking lot, but definitely not hard to park for free Downtown either.

That too. I have always just sucked it up and gone to a garage most times-though I will use the bank of meters when they go off by Goodale Park. Free or $3, it sure beats $25-150 and the possibility of no car.

Went to check out "Onyx". Took awhile to find. Is that why no one was there? Very nice place, seems like they must not promote their place well, though. Couldn't believe it wasn't busier, such a nice place. And the courtyard, wow! Had a few drafts, and ordered wings. Great bargin and food was good too. Nice staff and free parking. Oh, by the way it's next to Kroger if your looking.

I don't do clubbing period, but the lone reason I end up out in the burbs on any given weekend is Otani's.
