Inline skater/hacker/gamer hangout a la Hackers, 1995.

Now that is a kind of place I can get behind!

Yeah- they are "less than desirable" blocks until someone has the guts to make it something nice/cool. If you build it...they will come. I don't see anything wrong with that area either. Isn't it just around the corner from the old Madlab space& Slammers??
No, it's a half a block from High Street. Used to be Fabric a few years back and was The Garage before that.
Holy crap- even better! That is a prime location. Someone should change it back to the Garage :) I miss that place.
with club fire right beside the venue... it will remain less than desireable.
it wasn't the lease that scared a couple of people i knew away, including myself... it was the fact that it didn't actually include club fire like originally thought. the lease is actually a very nice lease. you want a long lease if you plan on running a successfull business. for example, what eventually happened to little brothers.
the auctioneer was not very helpfull either, and didn't return anyone's phone calls who had questions.
in a nutshell, club ice gets all of the press, but club fire is essentially the same venue and not a neighbor anyone wanted to move in beside. if this wasn't trully the case, then perhaps the auctioneer should have returned phone calls to potential bidders.
Ah... didn't know that. Judging from the original description, I thought it included Club Fire as well:
We are selling the business with all equipment and liquor license. There are 6 bars with equipment, Sound Equipment, Flat Screen TV's , Walkin Cooler, Ice Machine, Outdoor Patio with Furniture and more.
When it was the "Long Street Complex" it was 6 different bars, so I assumed that it meant everything was for sale in that spot.
looks like the ol' bait and switch was attempted
why does this not surprise me?

true, as did i. guess there are 6 bars alone on the club ice side now. however, will admit that it was never confirmed either way. maybe it did all go together, but this was the talk at the auction and from those that were originally interested.
I still want this place.
greenhouse I do too man! I really want to live in The Jack as well. Ugh I'm so impatient. lol This place can be marketed in so many different ways!
The liquor license is in limbo, so that makes it extremely undesirable for a bar! But I'd love to see the space used, and I think if anyone can do it, it would be Elizabeth Lessner! I love the Carib-themed restaurant, or maybe authentic Cuban? Being from FL its the thing I miss the most!

It was mentioned earlier in the thread so I assumed you knew that too. That's why I said if you wiped the slate clean I would agree with you. As is, the stigma against the block with these businesses is too much to overcome for my little brain.

The liquor license is in limbo
When I saw that there had been no bidders, I assumed that the liquor license status was the reason. It's the business that's for sale, right? So the value with a liq license is substantially different than the value without one, and there's no predicting whether there will be one or not by the time the sale closes. So who would bid under those circumstances? Am I understanding this correctly?
I would love to open a venue for large EDM acts to come play. BOMA is a great bar and can draw big talent but it's obvious that they don't do it for the music. Every time I've gone there the artist is cut-off at 2:15 even though they and the audience want to go for at least another hour or two... If it was opened up a bit it could fill the void. To me, that's really the ideal way to convert this space with minimal renovations and something extra to offer beyond that of club fire. I'd love to go after this space, but I haven't the time to dedicate to it due to school and whatnot. But hey if whoever does end up buying it needs an Electro/Trance/Dubstep DJ, I'm your guy :) I'd even do it gratis :)
Former nightclub owner charged with fraud in $3.6 million bank-loan scheme

A federal grand jury has accused a Reynoldsburg man of defrauding lenders of $3.6 million in mortgage loans involving 23 Columbus properties. The seven-count U.S. District Court indictment says that Kevin D. Hightower, 44, bought the properties as a group, then recruited shell buyers to purchase them using fraudulent down payments and false loan information. Hightower took kickbacks and received “substantial sums of money” at closings, the indictment says.
Hightower is the former owner of Club Ice, a hip-hop club at 40 E. Long St. Downtown.
