Just came back from the westerville location of Clive Christian (getting ready to do a kitchen). This guy is clearly the #1 kitchen designer / cabinet manufacturer in the world. I was surprised that there was even a location in columbus. The catalog I recieved looked more life a coffee table book than a catalog. All of their design is for free, they only charge you for the cabinets, and whatever else you get from them. Anyone ever dealt with them before? Any reviews?

Honestly, from the 30 second video on the website it's definitely not my thing. Seemed WAY overly gaudy to me.

Lol, please believe some of the stuff they have is obscenely gaudy, especially the ktichen with the gigantic columbus where the stove is. I also best that kitchen is probably 300k or so. I have seen a few kitchen done from them, and they can definitely go overboard sometimes. I like minimalist type shit usually, but that does not work everywhere. Cant have a crazy minimalist kitchen in a suburban home. More suitable to a condo downtown. Went out to great indoors also today to check out the Miele, and the gaggenau (sp?) let me just say, you are better off checking the internet, as these guys have barely any information about these products, and only have 1 or 2 items on display. I really hope that place downtown opens soon, drove by it jsut to see if it was open yet, still not open.

I wouldn't call that stuff gaudy... sort of "classical" in style I guess, and some of it looks like they go a little overboard. I'm more of a fan of modern design. Not too minimalist, but not quite as many textures and paterns and intracate details as in what their preview video shows. To each his own though.
I think you could pull of any style in any home. If you want a minimalist kitchen in your suburban home, go for it. Who cares? What's stopping you?
What I always find amusing is watching any sort of home remodeling show and seeing some rich baby boomers who drop a boatload of money on their thousand-square-foot kitchen when their kids are grown and gone. Do you really need a 500 cubic foot fridge to hold a half-gallon of milk? It seems like most of those people probably don't even do too much cooking. I bet most eat out several times a week since they can afford it. I guess a nice big kitchen is good for entertaining, but it just sounds like a waste of money to me.

^haha article in the nypost last week on exactly that. talking about dropping 300k on a kitchen in nyc, when barely anyone in manhattan cooks. My parents dropped a shitload of money on the kitchen when they built their "retirement" house, but really they never eat out. I have a funny quick story about a kitchen remodel. My parents live on the same block as the daughter of the of the guy who started Jones New York. She went to remodel her kitchen and the bill was going to be 500k. She paid the contractor 250k upfront, and he ran off with her money. Stupid trust fund kids.
Coremodels, I am going to try Clive first as they provide all design and whatnot for free. The only problem is, I am not sure, but they might be waaaaaaaaayyyyyy out of my price range. If they are I have a guy in memphis that friends and family have used. He charges 1500 upfront for the design and whatnot, but it is refunded if you decide to follow through with the plan.

also forgot to add, they showroom (if you want to call it that as it was only 2 kitchens, a bath, and a study) was located inside of an office building. Dont really see that much in columbus. Seen it a few times in nyc and chicago, but never here.

My mom knew someone who went to the Clive Christian showroom and she went with her and she liked it very much, but it is quite expensive. The Columbus location is the only one in Ohio. I know that they are quite popular back in England.
