Clippers almost champs - anyone care?

So the Columbus Clippers are making a great run into the playoffs and are close to being league champs... but does anyone care? There's coverage in the Dispatch but seems like it's not really a topic that is on anyone's mind in Columbus. It is "just" minor league baseball and is understandably its overshadowed by OSU football but should we care more or are Clippers games just about a sunny summer afternoon and a couple beers?

I love the Clips but I just can't get worked up for MiLB playoffs. Too little at stake to make it interesting for me.

not enough to warrant pedicabbing the playoff games. I was excited to get more work days out of the playoffs, but showed up to games with very little attendance. :(

I'll try again tonight with its combo with Slice of Columbus

Kudos to the Clippers! I'm just not a fan of baseball...

It seems that any team other than OSU and the Blue Jackets get little attention in Columbus even when they have a chance of winning it all or do win it all. I feel the same way about the Crew.

I truthfully believe that if the Crew was to get a new stadium downtown there would be a larger number of people attending the games.

That said, what does Clipper's attendance look like this year?

I would if any of the guys who actually got them to the playoffs were still playing in Columbus

I'm not faulting them, just saying it's hard to care about a team when it's filled with guys who are stopgaps at this point (most of the prospects for the Indians who aren't in Cleveland are still at the A or AA level).

i have a friend who now works for an NFL team, but at one point ran the ticket office for the Rochester Red Wings, a AAA affiliate and Clippers competitor. according to him, making the playoffs was actually a potentially money losing proposition for AAA teams. it is a summer past time and once Labor Day is past, kids are back in school, NFL and College Football are back in swing, etc... and people forget about their local AAA team. so in spite of a playoff appearance, ticket sales usually fall well below the average game in June and stadium operations can exceed revenue from the extra games.

of course that being said, go Clippers.

I'm excited for them! Hopefully they win. I think that would be really sweet if the international league and pacific league had a huge finals bracket to see whose champions of the entire MiLB league

Still a valid point I think though. Part of being a fan of a team is being a fan of their players, and that is tough with minor league. The guys you're most likely to become fans of (the best/most exciting players) are also the guys least likely to be there as soon as the very next week.

I was there last night for the awesome game, loge seats, it was fantastic, I've come to like the new stadium a lot.

City BBQ was 'out' of the night's buck-a-bone promotion before game time, bogus.

Tickets are still 6 bucks. IMO, you can't beat that for a few hours of entertainment. Sure, an OSU game might be more exciting, but it'll cost like 10-20 times as much.

In my humble opinion, we could do with a little more Clippers and a little less OSU football.
It's nice to know we live in a city with so many options when it comes to sporting events, and that we have teams who all seem to be doing reasonably well.
And you sure can't beat $6 tickets, and dime a dog night. Makes for an affordable afternoon/evening out for families, baseball fans, or really anyone just looking for something different to do.

There is probably some truth to what you say, but the following season ticket sales probably increased as more people usually like to follow a winner.
