Drove by the casino this past Friday - it looks really good. It's a shame they'll not always be in the old Higbee building, since that building is such a landmark.

Downtown was jammin' - we got downtown for our reservations early, and were glad we had, since all the nearby parking was getting full and *was* full by the time we were leaving. Chef Michael Symon posted on Twitter that it was the single best weekend that his downtown restaurant, Lola, had ever had.

That casino sure would have been a drag on downtown businesses.

Thoughts on Cleveland’s New Casino

Cleveland is seeing stars over the opening of its downtown casino. Word is Sinbad came by. So last Friday I went to check it out. I didn’t gamble–had a few Bud Light drafts–but I observed. Here is what stuck out.

A lot of gaudy decorations: chandeliers, gold blinds, patterned carpeting that would make you dizzy if you let it suck you in. The casino was placed in Cleveland’s historic Higbee Building, its history now covered up with faceless textiles and décor designed in a soulless spirit that would make even Liberace mope.

Casino bans baggy pants

CLEVELAND (AP) — Guests in Ohio’s first casino are prohibited from wearing saggy pants and shirts printed with offensive images under a newly posted code of conduct. The downtown Horseshoe Casino Cleveland opened on May 14 and recently posted the conduct guidelines at entrances. A casino spokeswoman told reporters the standards are meant to create a safe, pleasant environment for visitors and staff members.

Horseshoe Casino Cleveland says first month's attendance near 500,000

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Horseshoe Casino Clleveland says nearly a half-million people have come through its doors since it opened a month ago. The attendance figure, released Thursday, could not be independently confirmed, but it's clear crowds have been steady since the May 14 opening. And some nearby restaurants say business is up.

Seven charged with cheating at new Cleveland casino

Just six weeks after the opening of Cleveland’s Horseshoe Casino, seven men have been indicted for cheating at the gaming tables. Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine, Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Bill Mason and the Ohio Casino Control Commission said today that the alleged cheaters were caught between May 22 – eight days after the casino opened in downtown Cleveland – and June 17.

Pa. beware, Ohio sprouts its own casinos

CLEVELAND - This city on the southern shore of Lake Erie, where manufacturing jobs have disappeared and NBA superstar LeBron James bolted two years ago, has something new to tout: a casino. Horseshoe Casino Cleveland income falls 9 percent in July

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Horseshoe Casino Cleveland took in $23.9 million in adjusted gross income in July, down 9 percent from $26.1 million in June, the Ohio Casino Control Commission reported Tuesday. The Hollywood Casino in Toledo received $19.1 million, compared with $20.4 million in June.

Revenues Drop At Ohio Gambling Casinos

Revenues are down at two new Ohio gambling casinos. In June, the first full month of operation, the Hollywood Casino in Toledo and the Horseshoe Casino in Cleveland reported combined gross revenues of $46.5 million. In August that number dropped to $40.2 million. In another comparison, gamblers dropped just over $355 million into slot machines in June. That number fell to $291 million in August.

Casino revenue Drops Again In Cleveland, Toledo
