One thing I would love to see is more use of the Scioto River downtown. Paddleboats, kayak's, fishing, etc. To do this we obviously need to get the water usable state. Walking around it yesterday there was a sign that pretty much said avoid human contact. Then I look down and see ducks/geese eating out of it and that kills me. I'm willing to lead the charge to get the river back to a usable state but I dont know how. Any ideas?

If you want to put that positive energy to use and get started with a small change right away, there is a volunteer project to clean up the Scioto River downtown in preparation for Riverfest. You may also find people keen on continuing with the cause in other ways.
We're meeting this Saturday at 10A in the Confluence Park Restaurant parking lot at 679 W Spring St. Supplies are provided and free lunch follows at noon.
Let me know if you're interested :)

A great way to help clean that place up is to capture all the Canadian geese and ship them to Canada.

there used to be paddle boats on the river in downtown in the early 80s. i got to peddle one when i was like 3 or something before some show at the floating barge in front of central high. i think i was scared out of my mind being in a floating golf cart.

So maybe I took that sign wrong. Is the water clean enough to boat in?

The Water Trail progress has been very slow, but my understanding is that usage kiosks will be added soon at several water trail entry points.
The city added the required low-head dam warning signs earlier this fall.

I'm the Chair of FOSR and we have an annual cleanup below Greenlawn Dam, the woods there filter out a huge amount of floating trash.
You can clean around the river, but there will always be more trash coming in later. Water and wind carry it in, and people drop it.
