My brother and I went to the AMC Lennox tonight to see an early screening of Clash of the Titans. My brother had gone to the Other Paper offices earlier in the day to pick up the pass for the movie. (Said promotion being prominently displayed in the Other Paper) Once we arrived however, we found a long line of angry people stretching out the door. According to the people at AMC (they may have been promotions staff for the film), the Other Paper had handed out an incorrect type of pass and we would not be allowed into the movie, as all 283 correct passes had already been passed out. The people at the movie theater were very gracious and had all of us give our e-mail addresses so that they could e-mail us some free movie tickets. They were however, vocally exasperated at the Other Paper for screwing up their promotion.
This wasn't one of those situations where they gave away too many passes. According to the person I talked to, they were supposed to pass out bar coded passes but what we received were simple 1 color copies with no bar code on them. (which of course begs the question, how did the people who had the correct passes get them?)
The end result seems to be a lot of angry people (over 100 by my quick count), an irate film promoter, and a black eye for the Other Paper.
I've gotten one side of this story and I'd be very interested in hearing from the Other Paper about this. (I've sent them an e-mail and I'll post any responses I get).
I'm just wondering if this is really the Other Paper's fault, or if the promoter is trying to pin their screw up on them.
