CityMusic Announces 2011-2012 CityMusic Sundays Season
CityMusic announces the 2011-12 CityMusic Sunday Series (previously Chamber Music) season. The series consists of performances by Jazz Arts Group Quartet with EMMY© Award winning composer Dave Powers, Alasdair Frasier with Natalie Haas, Via Romen with Arkadiy Gips, Miró String Quartet and Quartetto Gelato.
All concerts take place at 2 p.m. on Sundays with doors opening at 12:30 for an a la carte lunch. CityMusic Sunday Series tickets are $80 adults, $64 seniors and $32 students. Tickets to individual concerts are $25 adults, $20 seniors and $10 students. Tickets can be can be purchased by calling CityMusic at (614) 223-3093 or http://www.CityMusicColumbus.org.

The Romany (Gypsy) musical legacy is most notably characterized by its clever synthesis of Eastern European musical genres. Via Romen is the embodiment of this legacy, of lacing tradition with novelty and offering unprecedented interpretations. Their music and dances, rooted in Russian-Romany tradition, enchants audiences with intricate improvisations, catchy tunes and flashy footwork.
Miró String Quartet

The Miró Quartet has won the Fischoff, Banff and Coleman competitions as well as the prestigious Naumburg Chamber Music Award and the Cleveland Quartet Award. They perform regularly in many of the world’s greatest concert halls including Carnegie Hall, the Berlin Philharmonic’s Kammermusiksaal, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Konzerthaus in Vienna. The quartet has collaborated with such artists as Joshua Bell, Eliot Fisk, Lynn Harrell, Midori, Jon Kimura Parker and Pinchas Zuckerman.

For over 31 years, EMMY© Award winning composer and performer Dave Powers has been a vital part of the Columbus music scene as a pianist, keyboardist, vocalist and entertainer. The Jazz Arts Group Quartet has been part of the CityMusic Chamber Music Series for many years, featuring four of the best regional professional Jazz musicians.

Scotland’s premier fiddle ambassador Alasdiar Frasier has teamed up with the young California cello virtuoso Natalie Haas to create a sound of unrivaled beauty, eloquence and passion. CityMusic is a community-based organization dedicated to presenting the greater Columbus community with unique cultural and educational experiences in the musical arts. CityMusic's mission is to expand the musical horizons of Central Ohio residents by presenting diverse music performances and to provide musical outreach to at-risk children and young adults in and around the Short North district through choral training, workshops and community performances with professional musicians.
