I'm pretty sure that not everyone actually qualified for a grant because they were outside community development block grant areas, so the city worked with scotts to at least get those places some materials. I couldn't get the audio tho so I didn't hear his full thing

If I understood him correctly, Ingwerson said gardens specifically named as recipients in the grant announcement have gotten bags of soil from Scotts instead of $. There may even be a post on CU naming those gardens. But I can't check right now. I am using a 1940s model Blackberry to post this comment.

So, that's why u couldn't get WCRS audio ? I thought something was wrong w/ our site. As for the city's funding of community gardens, I'm interested in helping to increase the amount of food grown in Columbus. To do that, the obstacles have to be addressed and overcome. Media reports shouldn't amount to cheerleading.

@Cbustransit: you seem interested in community gardens, so I figured I'd also mention it might be useful to interview one or more city officials about how we can grow more food here. I don't want to just criticize the city w/o trying hard to work w/ them. Maybe Walker is doing or has done interviews based on that.

CORRECTION: A couple days later Ingwerson told me he meant to say that Scotts donated bags of topsoil, not bags of dirt. He said the difference between dirt and topsoil is an important distinction to make. Ingwerson said Scotts has awarded him money in the past, thereby helping gardens in communities he cares very much about.
