You’d think to have great barbeque, it would take planning a trip down south to Tennessee, North Carolina, Texas, or any of the other great Barbeque meccas of the U.S. Not so. Surprisingly, authentic barbeque is right here in Columbus. City Barbeque, a well-known chain of joints right here in Columbus, has satisfied my craving for barbeque time and again, and I know great barbeque. Growing up in Texas, I always had delicious slow-smoked brisket and sausage, so I know the way it’s supposed to be done. A few years ago, I heard about City Barbeque and gave it a try. It immediately won over my taste buds and my family agreed, this was our new favorite destination for a great casual meal.
Recently, they have made some changes to their menu that I thought were worth mentioning to those of you who don’t frequent The City as much as myself. Of course they have their usual Lenten meat alternative, Southern Fried Catfish, but this year they have added a Beer Battered Cod. My husband tried it yesterday and agreed that it was absolutely delicious! It’s served daily, so you don’t even have to wait until Fridays to get your fish fix!
I also noticed that they now offer a lunch special, for those of us who can’t quite eat an entire platter in the middle of the day. It’s the same great slow-smoked meat and delicious sides, but definitely a more manageable portion for those of us still on track with our New Year’s Resolutions!
Finally, for busy nights when cooking dinner is hardly an option (Especially after late meetings or my kids’ dance practice and soccer games) they now have a Family Deal Monday- Wednesday nights. It includes enough meat for four people, buns, choice of two sides, four pieces of cornbread and all of the cutlery and plates to go with it. (Thank goodness- A night off from doing dishes!) The price is right too, $19.95 for all of that!
I certainly look forward to see what other new ideas are in the works for this awesome restaurant…a City Barbeque next to my house would be nice!
