Thursday, January 10, 2008
Business First of Louisville
Swedish furniture retailer IKEA will open its Cincinnati store on March 12 at 9 a.m., the company announced Thursday.
IKEA broke ground in May 2007 on its 344,000-square-foot store, located in the Cincinnati suburb of West Chester, Ohio.
The store is expected to draw customers from across the region, including Columbus, Indianapolis, Dayton, Lexington and Louisville.
It will employ about 400 and will include three model homes, 50 room settings, a supervised children's play area, a Swedish food market and a 300-seat restaurant specializing in Scandinavian treats.

Shoot, I need to call up Budget right now to reserve my truck. I will follow that up with a quick swing by Jungle Jim's.

I got way too spoiled having one 10 minutes from my parents house. It's still 2+ hours to Cincy, right? I don't know, I guess I'm lazy, but I need one in our metro area before I'll get really excited

Only takes me like 90 minutes. :P I'm a fast driver, however.

It takes me an hour and a half to get from my place in Vic Village to my parents' house in the city of Cincinnati, and Ikea is way north of there. You lose a little time because of having to cut west, but it's nowhere near two hours to get to where Ikea will be.

Me too, so that's better. I've never actually been there, just pass through it going to Louisville, Tennessee, and TX so I'd never paid attention to how long it took to get there!!

Cincy is better for them, with stores in Pittsburgh and Detroit already. But I really would have liked one here too. We can forget that trip to Pittsburgh now!

Many friends of mine who live in IKEA towns tell me that everyone seems to have the same 10 dollar coffee table. Now everyone in Cincinnati will get theirs.

The building itself is supposed to be LEED certified... not sure what level. Alot of "green" building going on in the Nasty.
