Daveed's in Mt. Adams is great: http://daveeds.com/wordpress/?page_id=10
I've heard good things about ForkHeartKnife, but haven't had a chance to eat there yet due to the hours:

Upscale, I'd pick Local 127 over Daveed's.
Jean Robert's Table is another choice, but I have no personal experience there.

If you like Indian, I suggest Akash India. Downtown on East 6th.
The lunch buffet is great - full of thick, creamy dishes that may require a siesta after.

That reminds me : Cumin in the Hyde Park area. Fancier, more cheffy Indian. Beautiful space.
@Berdawn - can you be more specific? Upscale, casual, what?

It's in the straight-up ghetto, but the burgers are soooo good.

A.Both would be good. Probably looking at at least lunch and dinner. A friend of mine moved there last month and I'll be going to visit soon. She's open to most food, but too busy to spend much time looking for new stuff.

I haven't been there but I've read some good reviews of Nectar. That would be a great choice for someone who is local and could easily become a regular after the little nudge of going with a friend - which seems to exactly fit what berdawn described. Nectar is good peoples.

I didn't get to stop on my last trip, but people in OTR kept talking about Alabama Fish Bar. It's a hole in the wall fried fish joint on Race and Liberty. We drove by twice right at opening time, and there was a line out the door and onto the sidewalk both days.
Also, if you need a laid back bar to hang out and take a load off and hear some great music, MOTR Pub is totally rad.
http://www.motrpub.comOh...and stop in Park + Vine in OTR too...

This in no way falls in the great food category, but it falls in the "you can feed your drunk face at 3am downtown with something that's not street meat" category. Shanghai Mama's seats until 3am and is PACKED weekend nights. It's cheap and fun. So in case you find yourself drunk and hungry at 2:45 (not that that's ever happened to me), there ya go.

Melt on Hamilton Ave in the heart of Northside is a great lunch & brunch spot. Mainly soups, sandwiches, and salads, with lots of vegetarian options. It's one of the things I miss most about Cincy, and it's the place I gravitate to for food when I'm visiting.
Just a few doors down is a place that used to be called the "Hideway," down a small courtyard next to the Northside Tavern. I think they've change their name recently. The set-up is a buffet with some soups and main dishes to pick from. Very tasty, but more of a take-out place that has only one or two tables if you want to sit.
In nice weather both of these places have ample outdoor seating to take advantage of.

Just to add a few more suggestions for variety. If you like Sushi - The Painted Fish in Northside or Green Papaya in Oakley are a couple of my favorite spots. The Painted Fish is BYOB with a small corkage fee.

http://www.greenpapayacincinnati.com/Arnold's downtown is a great restaurant/bar that has been running since 1861. Burgers, wings, etc...
http://www.arnoldsbarandgrill.com/While I haven't made it to these spots yet - I have also heard fantastic reviews of Honey in Northside and Senate in OTR.

http://www.senatepub.com/While they don't have food, if you decide to enjoy a drink or two - I would definitely recommend my personal favorite - Neon's Unplugged in OTR. http://www.neons-unplugged.com/
Enjoy your visit!
