Filmmakers Forum: An Evening of LGBT Shorts

Columbus, OHThe 59th Columbus International Film + Video Festival kicks off with a bang this year with "Filmmakers Forum: An Evening of LGBT Shorts", an event cosponsored by Stonewall Columbus. The CIFVF opens November 16 at 7pm at Studio 35 Cinema in Clintonville with three award-winning filmmakers presenting and discussing their work.
From Iran and Mexico via Montreal the CIFVF presents Kaveh Nabatian’s film “Vapor”. A short film set in Mexico City over the course of a single day, Vapor is the true story of an older man’s decision to accept his homosexuality. Told without any dialogue, this short film is a cinematic exploration of shame, catharsis, and ultimately, transcendence.
From New York City Lee Percy’s film “Dreaming American”
is about a handsome young illegal immigrant who finds work as a go go dancer in a gay bar while he pursues legal status and a career as an actor in New York City in this contemporary tale about the pursuit of happiness. Based on a true story, Dreaming American is sometimes humorous, sometimes sad but always a moving story of the struggle to make it in America. Starring Praq Rado, Giancarlo Esposito (from Breaking Bad), and Nancy Opel. Lead actor Praq Rado will also be in attendance.And from Ohio, Kailyne R. Water’s film “f my c” is a film about a journey for sexual intimacy. Hindered by experiences
with childhood sexual abuse, a couple work in partnership to try to create an awareness that is meaningful to them.The Studio 35 Cinema box office opens at 6pm. Early arrival is recommended as seating is limited. Admission is only $5.

With the simple act of swapping files, barbershop quartet baritone Robb Topolski finds himself at ground zero of a landmark case whose outcome will affect the rights of every American citizen.
Following one man’s personal quest to defend what he believes to be his inalienable rights, BARBERSHOP PUNK examines the critical issues surrounding the future of the American Internet and what it takes to challenge the status quo.Contemplating the future of the American Internet and the inalienable rights under review, the film features discussions with Ian MacKaye, Damian Kulash of OK Go, Henry Rollins, Janeane Garofalo, EFF’s John Perry Barlow, U.S. Congressman Chip Pickering, Congressman Marsha Blackburn, Free Form DJ Jim Ladd, Clinton White House Press Secretary Mike McCurry, Michelle Combs of the Christian Coalition, Songwriters Guild President Rick Carnes, NARAL’s Ted Miller, lobbyist Jack Burkman, and FCC Commissioner Jonathan Adelstein, among others.

Columbus International Film + Video Festival Returns

The 59th annual Columbus International Film + Video Festival (CIFVF) kicks off on Wednesday and spans three venues over the course of five days. Film events range from kid-friendly international cartoons to documentaries on internet regulation to local student works.
