Just reading something isn't the same as believing or advocating it. This isn't 1984, you can read pretty much any damn thing you want no matter how you feel about it.
Does she personally believe that being gay is "a perversion and a sin punishable by death?" My guess is no.
Is she advocating for gays to be put to death? My guess again would be no.
Ann read the passages because they are in the Torah. Plain and simple.
Your hypothetical question of "does this make *blank* a hate group?" seems disingenuous, ill-conceived, and not at all an apt comparison to make.

That the FRC has other agendas that aren't "hate group" worthy of being listed isn't really important. The point was that their virulently anti-gay agenda as executed does in fact qualify them.
If they don't like being the baby thrown out with the bathwater, then they should bother to change their tactics, or bathwater, or just stop fouling it.

No one ever talks about all the positive community service and non-"hate-groupy" stuff the KKK does either.

FYI: Jewish congregations read the entire Torah (the first 5 books of the Bible) either annually or over three years as part of religious services. It's similar to churches that read all the Gospels. The Torah is usually read in Hebrew, then translated into English. The rabbi usually explains the context of how the passages are applied to modern life. The passages that mention homosexuality are seen as part of the larger prohibition against paganism (fetility cults and use of male/female prostitutes). Kudos to Tifereth Israel on how they view Torah and acceptance of a very diverse community. You do not have to be Jewish to pray there.
As for Chick-Fil-A, people should recall the controversy over Cracker Barrel's policy of firing gay employees (back in the 1990's). After much public pressure and a boycott, that policy was overturned. Chick-Fil-A has not, to my knowledge, fired gay or non-Christian employees. Chick-Fil-A's president was presenting his personal beliefs (in a religious setting) and not HR policies. Just as the Coors family, who separate their conservative views from marketing Coors beer to the gay community. Hypocritical perhaps, but then money often speaks louder than words.

They have fired non-Christian employees and settled lawsuits, out of court. Because of our archaic laws, if they have fired gay people, it's nearly impossible for them to sue.
Again - they do require franchisees to hold the same views as corporate/owners.

First, because I know and am friendly with Lisa Henson's husband who is an all-around good guy.
Second, because picking a fight with Henson company seems beyond stupid both politically and legally.
