Family Research Council believes that homosexual conduct is harmful to the persons who engage in it and to society at large, and can never be affirmed. It is by definition unnatural, and as such is associated with negative physical and psychological health effects. While the origins of same-sex attractions may be complex, there is no convincing evidence that a homosexual identity is ever something genetic or inborn. We oppose the vigorous efforts of homosexual activists to demand that homosexuality be accepted as equivalent to heterosexuality in law, in the media, and in schools. Attempts to join two men or two women in "marriage" constitute a radical redefinition and falsification of the institution, and FRC supports state and federal constitutional amendments to prevent such redefinition by courts or legislatures. Sympathy must be extended to those who struggle with unwanted same-sex attractions, and every effort should be made to assist such persons to overcome those attractions, as many already have.

Gay activists, and others who have accepted the “gay
identity” paradigm, argue that the public policy debates
revolve around whether “gay people are treated
equally” to straight people. Social conservatives perceive
the issues at stake completely differently. They
believe, without question, that gay people, as individuals,
should and do enjoy all the same rights under
the Constitution and its Bill of Rights as any other
American. However, social conservatives perceive the
key issue in public policy debates as being whether homosexual
conduct and homosexual relationships should be
discouraged; treated as entirely private (that is, neither
discouraged nor affirmed); or actively protected, affirmed,
and celebrated. The latter is what gay activists
demand.
I don't know what constitutes a "hate group" but I certainly do not agree with FRC's printed materials which are anti-same sex marriage as recognized by government, promote therapy to convert people who have homosexual tendencies to have heterosexual tendencies, and disparage people who are seeking expanding incomplete rights.
But this is moot. The president of Chick-fil-A made a statement that the company opposes gay marriage. I have no knowledge of how the company has treated gay/lesbian employees, but the president made a calculation that his statement is good for business. Maybe it will be or maybe it won't. For some people, his statement will be enough to ban/buy Chick-fil-A. Some people won't care. Individual operators support of anti-gay marriage initiatives will similarly tilt the scale one way or the other.

first off, it's pretty funny hearing you criticize someone for being "very casual insulting another ..." What's the phrase "pot calling the kettle black".
second, whether or not the mayor is pandering is irrelevant. Not all free publicity is good. Chick-fil-a prohibited from entering a large, dense market is bad business.

I was in one of their restaurants in Cincinnati and they had a little history section hung on the wall. In the shot of a historic Chick-fil-A from the '70s, the customers waiting in line weren't wearing shoes. It interested me that they used that shot in their marketing materials.

i used to go to their Dwarf House restaurant in Jonesboro,Ga a lot.
i believe i remember seeing the same pic.
those old pictures in their restaurants showed simpler times,that's for sure
