Central Ohio may get 1,150 jobs from JPMorgan Chase & Co. under a tax incentive deal scheduled to be considered Monday by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority, Columbus Business First has learned.

Public documents show that Westerville would gain about 150 of those jobs over the next five years as well as an investment of $9 million into JP Morgan facilities. The site or sites for the other 1,000 jobs could not be discerned.

Wow - that would be great news - especially in this economy.

IMO Columbus is the top performing large Midwest metro in this recession.

This is good news, but I'm sure we're still going to see more job loses announced throughout the region before things get completely better again.

Still.. according to this map (from this article), Indianapolis might be slightly ahead of us, but I think Columbus is in a close second:

Mayor Announces Opportunity For 1,000 New JP Morgan Chase Jobs In Columbus

Stepping up ColumbusÃ¢â‚¬â„¢ fight to create and retain new jobs in the city, Mayor Michael B. Coleman announced JP Morgan Chase Bank hopes to expand its operations, bringing 1,000 new jobs to the city and retaining another 13,000. The mayor and his economic development team have been working with Chase for several months to hammer out a deal. The plan would require City Council approval.

Ã¢â‚¬Å“We are committed to the economic growth of our existing and emerging industries, and we are pleased that Chase wants to expand its operations in Columbus,Ã¢â‚¬Â Mayor Coleman said. Ã¢â‚¬Å“This proposed deal would be a major boost to our three-part plan to sustain our quality of life through new jobs, government reforms and additional revenue.Ã¢â‚¬Â

If approved by council, the city will offer Chase a Jobs Growth Incentive of 35 percent for eight years and a Job Creation Tax Credit of 65 percent for 10 years. As a result of the new jobs, the City would net an estimated $4.5 million in additional income tax over eight years.

Ã¢â‚¬Å“Given the current state of the economy, this is great news for the City of Columbus,Ã¢â‚¬Â said Councilmember Andrew J. Ginther, Chair of the Development Committee. Ã¢â‚¬Å“Chase has a proven track record of being a good corporate citizen, and I appreciate their continued investment in the City. Chase gets state tax break for jobs; city aims to follow
Business First of Columbus

New York-based JPMorgan Chase & Co. would save about $14 million over 15 years during the term of a state incentive approved Monday by the Ohio Tax Credit Authority.

The financial services company, among the largest employers in Central Ohio, also is set to gain $8.3 million in tax credits and cash from the city of Columbus.

what a joke.. Chase lays off a few hundred workers and contractors locally, freezes all hiring for jobs they actually need to fill then get a gift from the government to 'bring more jobs' which probably means just unfreezing a lot of the jobs they could have filled in the past 9 months had managers been allowed to hire anyone...

JPMorgan Chase & Co. plans to hire 1,200 mortgage officers by the end of next year in what it called an effort to help customers finance home purchases or refinance existing loans.
