i've seen multiple reports of it going to the old delphi plant

pretty pissed off if this turns out to be true

this really will wind up being a horrible thing for columbus

Alternative, shmalternative. I hear the news and it just brings up a hundred more questions. With at least seven taco trucks that I can think of off the top of my head in that general vicinity, I can say that the area isn't the best OR the worst from crime perspective, but I'm afraid that the presence of a casino there will up the crime rate enough that the people who currently work/eat/shop/eke out a livelihood will no longer be able to do so safely.

I've never been inside the Delphi building, but surely there's a better use for the property? One that doesn't prey off the desperation of the area?

I've just been feeling really disillusioned with Ohio and Columbus in particular lately. The decisions that the people of this city and state have been making have really made me rethink whether or not this is a place I see myself living in long term. Whether it's parking meters, casinos, an ambivalence about initiating a recycling program that works...why are we going backward instead of forward?

Recessions in general tend to give everyone a feeling of "backwards" and that is true no matter where you live.
The city just proposed alternate sites for the good of the community or in this case the big money makers in Central Ohio. Penn was smart to make ammends and agree to view the alternate sites just like any business would to keep the public happy (or preoccupied)
In all I think this site is the best of all solutions except maybe the Scioto Downs location but then Penn would have to work with other gambling owners' interests.
I don't blame the city at all in this case. The state of Ohio voted for it to get a Casino whether the city wanted one or not. Had to live with the cards it was dealt. (pun intended)

I have yet to take the taco truck plunge but I feel like if I do, someone will kidnap me for ransom. I don't think I've ever seen a gringo eating at one of those.

Juniors on 5th ave is a good one to start out with. The quality of the ingredients is excellent and it's tasty.

Taqueria Davanne was my second.

Both located on 5th ave...

@jpizzow: Take the plunge and don't look back. Quality Mexican food that you can purchase with spare change. I had 2 steak tacos and a tamale today. It was the best lunch I've had in weeks.

the whole grilled chicken deal at the one on Broad that I can't remember the name of now (Bear?) was definitely the some of best chicken I've ever had.

ETA: As far as "good will" being the only thing on the table, not buying it. This move will cost money, if it happens, from Penn now having to own two properties, to developing both, to even doing things like studies of the new one. I don't see them spending that kind of money just because people complained.

What's interesting to me, all the other media outlets were reporting Delphi before 10TV and the Dispatch. I would have thought the newsletter of StandUp Columbus would have been WAY out in front of this story.

Right, There are only a few out that way. None that I would personally seek out to stay in. They are also not large enough to carry the ideal traffic a casino would bring.
One thing I wonder is if they are so pressed on time to build. Why would they knowingly pick a place that requires so much more effort on their part? Would the city make them that sweet of a deal?
