So, the're spending 150 million more at the Delphi site. They must see much more opportunity in that site if they are willing to throw down that much more investment.

Building on the National Road on a brownfield restoration of an Auto Parts Plant...what about a transportation theme?
It's a missed opportunity to do something unique if Penn National goes with the tired Hollywood Theme.
(this is all assuming Issue 2 passes)I was initially really skeptical of the "Hollywood" theming, but having seen it in person, it's really not as bad as I thought. In fact, some of it is downright good (ya know, for over-the-top-casino-style). They do quite a bit of retro-Hollywood - huge reprints of old movie posters, art deco, etc... then there was a whole section of "urban" style Hollywood, complete with full size billboards, and industrial theming.

I think the increased price and decreased square footage is because they would add a hotel out west. This is just my guess. These numbers have been reported, but no one has explained the increased price and decreased sf.

Experience Columbus Supports the Move:
OFFICIAL STATEMENT:
3/17/10The Experience Columbus board today voted to support Ohio ballot Issue 2, joining with Ohio Representative Ted Celeste, Ohio Senator Jim Hughes, Columbus Mayor Michael B. Coleman, Council President Michael C. Mentel and Franklin County Commissioner John O'Grady to advocate for the casino relocation.
Experience Columbus believes that supporting Issue 2 to move the Columbus casino from the Arena District to the site of the abandoned GM-Delphi plant on Columbus' West side -- a location supported by the area residents and businesses alike -- is in the best interest of the community and the travel and tourism industry Experience Columbus represents.
The Experience Columbus board's specific support of Issue 2 is based primarily on the belief that the community should be able to choose where to build a casino. The Experience Columbus board also feels that the west side of Columbus would greatly benefit from the new jobs and economic activity that a casino will bring.
The Experience Columbus board stands united in support to Issue 2 and urges Ohio voters to support the issue on Tuesday, May 4.

I like how much it is going to help property values and job creation on the Hilltop and how it was going to destroy property values and jobs in the Arena District. What a perfect solution they found!

I like how much it is going to help property values and job creation on the Hilltop and how it was going to destroy property values and jobs in the Arena District. What a perfect solution they found! That is easy:
Property values are A$ in the Arena District and the casino takes them to B$ (< A$)
Property values are W$ in Westside (W <<< A) and casino takes them to B$. (>W$)
Same end point of B$, but one is a gain and the other is a loss. It is not unreasonable. Whether it is true or not ...

I am happy the Hilltop might get the casino. We really need something to bring us back to life. I guess the Arena District's cast-offs are good for the hood. Hopefully, I'll be laughing in a few years.

I am happy the Hilltop might get the casino.Do you consider the Delphi site to be a part of the Hilltop? I thought it was another two miles down Broad from the area that is typically considered The Hilltop?
Then again... someone posted a map once that had the boundaries of The Hilltop defined as a whole third of Central Ohio. So who knows...

I agree with you. What the City defines as the Hilltop is not what I really consider the Hilltop. My definition of the Hilltop is from 70 to the east, Wilson Rd to the west, Clime road to the south and Fisher Rd to the north. However, the City defines a much larger area. Their definition is 70 to the east and north and 270 to the south and west.
I consider the Delphi site to be part of the Westland area.
Since we don't make the rules, I'll call it part of the Hilltop.
Regardless of the status, I think it is good for an area that is in total decline.

Drove by Delphi earlier. They're in the process of removing the windows from the office portion of the building.

Yesterday, I was talking to a coworker about various political things, and the subject of the casino came up. She suddenly started talking about how Issue 2 had to pass, because the casino didn't belong downtown, that she didn't want it anywhere near her neighborhood (she lives in Vicky Village). I paused and said - you know, it's interesting that the casino is so very bad for the folks who live near it when it's downtown, yet it's so very right for the folks who live near it on the Westside... considering I'm one of those folks.
She was a little taken aback, and we actually had a pretty good discussion about it, but it reminded me that it really is a friggin' class issue, regardless of the economics.
