Why don't we rename the city to Franklinton? It was an actual settlement in the region, while Columbus was an artificial capital city established by the state 15 years later.
There's two other Franklintons in the US, but both are under 3500 people.

Speaking of trendy, somebody's been calling us "The CO".
Come on guys, this one's too easy.

Or Trolleycarumbus?
MikeReed wrote I'm going to start a campaign to attract and retain the name Columbus.
This will surely bore the name and cause it to move to New York or Chicago.
And I like the idea of keeping the name the same, but I hate it's association with the namesake.
I would much prefer Franklinton's association with Ben Franklin. At least that guy did some awesome things.
Columbus..... not so much.
Walker wrote I think 90% of the time Columbus is first and foremost associated with Ohio.We just need to be bigger and uniquer and there will be no doubt which Columbus is the best.
:D
Hell, I live in Atlanta, and when they talk about Columbus (GA) on the news, I immediately think Columbus (OH) everytime.

Yeah right. The way things are now, Carlumbus would be much more accurate. Never mind less enunciatologically challenging.
I like the name Guy Who Discovered San Salvador. But then we'd be Guy Who Discovered San Salvador, Ohio, and there's no San Salvador, Ohio, so that might get confusing.
I don't know if Franklinton would be a good idea. Aren't we just trading one famous person who has never set foot in this region (Christopher Columbus) for another? (Ben Franklin) How about Clarettville?

Ha.
Simone Wilkinsonburg
that oughta give us that international flavor we seem to require.
Grove City North

Walker I like Franklinton, at least it would be different. But I would suggest that if we go to the trouble, it should ring different and crazy unique- we need all the help we can get in the Midwest. For instance (just a for instance) Zenith (yes cheesy but so is Phoenix if you get down to it). Zenith (or whatever) would be on the CNN weathermaps-- "A chance of snow in Zenith, I love that name and I love that city too!"-- skipping the more boring midwestern names. Maybe Xena, the Buckeye Warrior City might work too--ta ha-- but I'm serious about all this. Why the hell not?
How about we stick it to the man and call it "Columbus,Ohio" so now everyone's address will end with Columbus,Ohio , Ohio 4XXXX.
Xenia would sue us for gimmick infringement.
How about we just get it over with and name it Xenos Cult City.

The Cincinnati suburb of Indian Hill officially changed their name to "The Village of Indian Hill" so that even when they went over 5,000 population and were officially a city, they'd still be a "village"
The Village of Columbus?
Or we could take a cue from Hamilton, Ohio and become
Columbus!
