Former CD101 moving studios out of Brewery District

While 2010 was about a move on the radio dial for WWCD, 2011 will see the alternative radio station move its studios and offices.

Located at the Worly Building on Front Street in the Brewery District since 1996, Fun with Radio LLCÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s radio station WWCD, long known as CD101 before moving up the FM dial to 102.5 for good in December, will be moving to a new location to make room for Shadowbox LiveÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s planned move into the building this year.

The Brewery District location gave the radio station an urban setting in a hip area (hipper than the suburbs, anyway) , and also featured a mini concert venue called the Big Room, where acts performing in town often put on special day-time shows for a small crowd

I hope that Shadowbox does well there. I know that they say they will, but proof is in the pudding. I'm looking forward to checking 'em out there once they're settled in.

I'm willing to bet that a lot of people were saying the same thing when the moved out to Easton. ;) I think they've proved pretty well that their fans will travel to see them in unconventional locations. The Brewery District shouldn't offer them too many new challenges other than parking, and having met with Stev Guyer and Jimmy Mak to talk about the move, it sounds like they're already *way* on top of addressing the parking issue.

Anyway... as far as CD101 goes, I sort of assumed that they would be staying in the Worley Building along with Shadowbox. Didn't realize that they would be leaving. I think there could have been some interesting energy between the two, but sounds like maybe for the best for them to find a new venue? The *hipness* left the Brewery District nearly a decade ago. Time for CD101 to move to Park Street? ;)

WWCD-CD101 @ 102.5 fm leaving Worly Building, Staying in the Brewery District

Press Release - February 4, 2011

Locally and independently owned WWCD-CD101 @ 102.5 fm is relocating from the Worly Building at 503 S. Front Street to 1036 S. Front Street, currently the Swiss Chalet Party Haus.

Ã¢â‚¬Å“We are extremely excited to be moving The Alternative Station into its very own building while staying in the Brewery District where the last fifteen years of our history has been built,Ã¢â‚¬Â said WWCD General Manager Randy Malloy. Ã¢â‚¬Å“We welcome Shadowbox Cabaret to the neighborhood and look forward to book-ending the Brewery District with them.Ã¢â‚¬Â

WWCD moved into the Worly Building in 1996 from a small, stand-alone building on S. High Street where the radio station was born.

Ã¢â‚¬Å“With Shadowbox CabaretÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s plans to move into the Brewery District this summer, many hours were spent exploring a way for WWCD and Shadowbox to coexist in the Worly Building. We are very appreciative of repeated efforts on behalf of The Worly Building management and Bill Schottenstein to work out a solution that would have allowed us to stay. Ultimately, given the space requirements for Shadowbox, we would not have been able to keep the Big Room to remain in our current space.Ã¢â‚¬Â

The Big Room is a performance space at WWCD studios that regularly features national touring artists in an intimate and personal setting, offering listeners a one-of-a-kind concert experience. Recent performers in the Big Room include: Band of Horses, Cage the Elephant, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Posies, Phoenix, & Franz Ferdinand.

As for a timeline for the move, Randy Malloy simply stated he Ã¢â‚¬Å“hopes to begin broadcasting from The Alternative Station Party Haus by the beginning of summer.Ã¢â‚¬Â

WWCD-FM is a locally owned and operated alternative radio station that began broadcasting in August 1990.
