I don't if this has already been posted, if so, my bad. It could be pretty cool though.

It could be cool, but ... would you pay $35 dollars for a year of it? I'd have to see it, but I doubt I would pay for it.
There are free local magazines that aren't even worth picking up and reading, let alone paying for them or disgracing the bottom of a bird cage. They end up just being litter nuisances.
Sorry, I just am constantly amazed at the money thrown at the local magazine market here. Especially since nobody is making any money at it.

well it looks like they're in a ton of areas, so they must have some idea of what they're doing.

I saw that before, but like I said I'm still amazed.

I'm excited about it. If nothing else, I like that Columbus will have something concrete to help us identify our local food scene. It will a great publication for Exp. Cbus to put in media kits for our fair city.
It's my understanding that the magazine will be available free at numerous locations.
I met with the editor and she was really cool. She definitely has a vision, and lots of famous people write for them.
I will admit that it's a little disappointing that businesses will pay these rates for print and still very few people want to advertise online.

Sorry, I just am constantly amazed at the money thrown at the local magazine market here. Especially since nobody is making any money at it.I suspect they're counting on ads for the vast majority of their revenue, and subscriptions are just icing. I might subscribe; dunno, depends on how hard it is to get otherwise and what the content does for me. Now if they had it automatically delivered wirelessly to my still-notional Apple Tablet, I'd be a lot more tempted.
I'm with Lisa -- very glad they're here.

Their introduction certainly seems like it would appeal to a good portion of C/U's regulars, I'll probably subscribe.

Oh, I'll definitely be reading it.

Yeah. Thank God.

from the release "...part of a national chain of hyper-local food publications". In my experience "national reporting" and "hyper-local reporting" are mutually exclusive. But I do wish them the best :)

Good point. I edited my post to be specific to publishing.

If you dig into their media kit and their site a little, they seem to basically be a media operation who does things just like whole foods. If that's the case, I think they probably could nail it pretty well.
Posted 2 years ago # -
It is certainly possible. I'm just saying that I haven't seen a national publisher succeed with hyper-local content, yet. I do hope this publisher succeeds though!

http://www.ediblecommunities.com/content/edible-publications/edible-publications.htmThat summary doesn't even sound like it was even written by a local more like someone who did an hour of research on Yelp

I'm not even a foodie, but I always read the DFW version. I never knew it was a national thing. I didn't realize this was a monthly magazine though, I thought I remembered it only being quarterly, but maybe that was just in the beginning? It was mostly ads, not much content and could be read cover to cover in 10 - 15 minutes. Every once in awhile it would have an interesting article on a restaurant I wanted to check out or a cool recipe or something. Most of the farms owned by families I know have been featured so I have a bunch in my scrap-tub.

The media kit says its quarterly, at least the ads are priced that way.

Oh, I guess I just assumed the $35 was for 12 issues. Ack, I absolutely wouldn't pay $8 per issue.
