Adam Foote pulled up scared and did not return to Columbus. RJ Umberger, who came to the Blue Jackets thanks to the trade Foote forced last year, had a goal and an assist. The CBJ won their third straight against mighty Colorado. Best of all, the Blue Jackets are, in Ken Hitchcock's words, "above the bar." If the playoffs started today the Blue Jackets would...BE IN! Awesome! There are 39 games left to play, starting with New Jersey on Saturday. Cross your fingers.

They've been on a definite hot streak, that's for sure, and considering how far back in the playoff picture (i.e., not even really in it) just a month ago, that's impressive. That said, cold streaks can materialize just as quickly as hot streaks, and there's not enough time left in the season for the Jackets to recover from even a moderately long losing streak. Keep in mind that this "hot streak" actually just means that they were 8-5-1 over the past 30 days, thanks to a 1-3-1 stretch in the middle of December.
Also, four of our next five opponents--NJ, Vancouver, Calgary, and Detroit--have more points than we do.

Huselius had a goal and two assists. Good to see others taking up the scoring slack with Nash out. Better to see the team rally around Mason, he had a mediocre game. Last night was a game previous Blue Jackets teams would have allowed a late goal to tie, then lost in overtime or a shootout. They picked up an important two points. If they can string together a few four or five game winning streaks and not lose more than two in a row the rest of the way there may be hockey in April. Road wins are important.

Whether they make the playoffs or not, it's great to see the team play through adversity. You're right, last year's team would have lost last night's game. Last year's team would have folded for the season after Brassard and Nash got hurt.

Hah! Brassard, Nash, & company are going to have to fight to get their ice minutes back up if the "backups" continue to play like this!

Nash won't. I hope Torres is not out of synch and ready to go Friday. Chimera will be a welcome addition. As for Leclaire and Klesla......

I'll be curious to see how Jason Williams looks Friday. The Jackets acquired him Wednesday in a meh sorta deal. He doesn't cost much, we didn't give up much -- but he's not exactly the steal of the century. I guess we have to see how he pans out -- not even sure what line he's projected for.

The Dispatch suggested that he was brought in mainly as a right-handed power-play forward. As to what regular line he plays in, the answer could probably be found by looking at our current injury list. :-(
If he doesn't pan out, it's no real skin off our back. This was the last season on his contract and we only bought him for half of it. We go back to the drawing board in the off season and continue to search for a heavyweight center--as well as to get our own people healthy again. The ranks of the fallen don't bode well for our stamina down the stretch at the moment, despite how well we've been playing.

Raffi should be back tonight. Nash and Murray might dress too. It will interesting to see where Williams plays.

It's just great to be playing meaningful games in mid-January instead of doing MacLean Math to prove that we're still in the mix. Fingers crossed.

I though Nash was going to be out a while longer. Like, weeks longer.

From this morning's Dispatch...
Left wingers Rick Nash (sprained left knee) and Andrew Murray (upper body) participated in full practice yesterday. It will be determined today if they'll dress tonight

Puckrackers was commenting on that yesterday, that Montreal stopped using the term upper or lower body to describe an injury. It's about time teams stopped this ridiculous practice.

I'm going to be interested to see Williams play. The Dispatch keeps calling Williams a finesse player who can get to the net.
That... sounds promising.

I can only say... I liked Brule. When he first started playing for the Jackets, I really saw him trying to make plays happen. But there wasn't anyone there, where he expected them to be... where they *should* have been.
I'd be interested to see him play on the Jackets today. I honestly think you'd see a different Brule today. I think he was a casualty of the MacLean transition... and honestly... he was one of the few decent prospects we had for trade. Someone with potential. We were so short on ... I hate to say it like this but... "prime" players... guys 25-30ish who had some productive years in the NHL under their belts.

Well, we cracked TSN's top 10 -- is that the first time?

This Week 10 Last Week 15 Columbus Blue Jackets 22-19-4
8-3 in the last 11 games, the Blue Jackets are starting to realize their potential, though the upside seems to be limited as long as Manny Malhotra is centering the top line (even if he does have eight points in the last eight games).

Great, it's official. Leclaire's done for the season.

Damn his fragile bones! I'm amazed at what mason has accomplished, but I really like Lelcaire, and I'd love for him to have one clear season to really show what he's capable of.
10-12 weeks recovery from ankle surgery. Shudder.

What happened last night? That was ugly.
