Long story short. I've just had a bad experience with a local office, I didn't feel like was taken care of or followed up on. Plus they made a mistake on my prescription and clearly didn't take responsibility for it. This was the last straw. I've been with them (on and off) for about 5 years and the customer service was great at first. But has declined over the years.
Hopefully someone local, who goes out of there way for there customers and not to take me to bank over new glasses or contacts.

DEfinately! Harris Opiticians on High Street--Dr. Sherri Reed is the best eye doctor I've ever been to.

I'm not sure what area of town you are in. We have used Image Optical for years, and like them (and they participate in our eye plan from work). They did a great job at helping me pick out some cool glasses (I tend to not venture out on my own, but loved what I ended up getting: purplish and slightly cat-eye). I had an emergency last summer(scratched my cornea a little bit) and the doc at Image Optical was not in, so I went to Columbus Eyeworks. The doctor there was very nice and helpful, too. We just don't regularly go to her because it costs us more. Columbus Eyeworks just moved to right by Rosendales. Image Optical is on the other side of High, and a little further north in the SN but south of the UDF.

I like Dr. Koch at Columbus Eyeworks and have also been to Image Optical. Both great.

+1 on Columbus Eyeworks. Dr. Koch is great. there is a new doc in the practice; I haven't been to her, but my husband thought she was good.

I've gone to Columbus Eyeworks since moving here and really like them. They are not cheap, but I like Dr. Koch and my new frames always look fabulous :)

If you don't have health insurance, or are on Medicare or Medicaid, you can visit the Columbus Neighborhood Health Center on E. Main, where my wife is an optometrist. She's really good (not just saying that because we're married), and is able to catch a lot of eye-health problems early in addition to correcting vision problems. It's a great option if you're on Medicare/Medicaid, because it's hard to find a doctor who will accept you.

I'd second Harris. I've been bouncing around among a few optometrists for the last decade or so, and just recently went to Harris and it was great. I saw Dr. Furgeson, and he was super-thorough, and very personable too.

Why not the OSU school of optometry?
338 W. 10th Ave

Clinic: (614) 292-2020I just like to report, that I had a wonderful experience with OSU's school of optometry.

My appointment was for 3:30 and they actually saw me at 3:30. I arrived and registered, and before I could plop my butt down for the expected wait with a two year old golf magazine, a 4th year student greeted me with a smile and took me back to one of the examining rooms.
Her exam with completely thorough, professional and used the latest equipment. We started with a family history and evaluation of overall health. She asked me about my family, health and current stresses in my life and was truly attentive and interested. She was patient and worked with me with my fear of my eye being touched (most of my vision problems are from a childhood accident when I was cut in the eye with a zipper in a coat war.)
She explained what each of the exams did and gave me the results as we progressed. About half the exams were with equipment that I have never seen before.
The exam was actually a pleasant experience which lasted about an hour and a half. (a nice change from the usual "click, better worse?, click, better/worse?)
After the exam they took me to the glass store where another 4th year student spent 45 minutes with me picking out glasses. Explaining what type of glasses would go best with my vision needs and working with my style requests.
I don't think I've ever had such a good experience with a doctor (ok student and hopefully future doctor) that I can remember. I can't recommend them enough.

I saved a bundle by going to an optimist, he said I didn't have a stigma.
