I'm the one that told told them to post on here so I figure I'd actually log in and reply to answer some questions.
It isn't illegal to play poker or to gamble. It is illegal to run a business that profits from gambling. That is why home poker games are legal since the house doesn't take a rake.
The Campus Card Club (as well as the 4-5 other ones in Columbus) are social clubs. You must become a member of the club in order to play any games at the club. With the Campus Card Club there is a $25 membership fee for a year's membership and there is a daily use fee ranging from $10-15. The daily use fee is waived the first day you sign up.
The main game played is No Limit Texas Hold'Em but they have also played other games, Euchre, Tonk, Chess, and even a Stratego tournament the other day. There is a daily No Limit Hold'Em tournament starting at 7PM. There are also cash games starting around 9PM or so. All of the tournaments are 100% paid out and there is no rake on the cash games.
They've only been running tournaments for 4-5 days now. I placed 2nd last Friday and had a nice profit from the cash games on Sunday. I'm a pretty regular player since it is literally 5 min from my house. If anyone is interested in going or knowing any more information feel free to ask, I'll keep checking back in.
