ROY G BIV Gallery for Emerging Artists is currently looking for artists to exhibit in a statewide juried exhibition focusing on the best photographic and video arts in Ohio. Only photographs and video based work will be accepted for consideration. Entries are limited to artists residing in the state of Ohio.
Linde Brady will select the artists for ImageOHIO11 whose works will be exhibited from January through February at the Shot Tower Gallery on the campus of Fort Hayes as a satellite exhibition of ROY G BIV Gallery in Columbus, Ohio.
About the juror:
Linde Brady is a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Wisconsin-Madison currently writing her dissertation on the work of American photographer Paul Outerbridge. Her research interests include American and European modernism with emphasis on the politics of mu- seum display, race and gender identity, and mass advertising culture. She also specializes in the history of photography, and contemporary art and theory. Her M.A. thesis was entitled “Cabinets of Wonder, Objects of Critique: The Museums of Fred Wilson and Mark Dion.†She received her B.A. in art history from the University of Chicago.
In Chicago, she was employed by Museums in the Park, a non-profit consortium of nine major museums, and at the Art Institute of Chicago, she coordinated a Science, Art and Technology program for Museum Education. In Madison, she served on the Museum Council for the Chazen Museum of Art, and gave gallery lectures at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. She was also a curatorial intern for the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, where she helped assemble a proposal for Catherine Opie’s mid-career retrospective held at the Guggenheim in late 2008. In September 2007, she moved to Los Angeles to work as the graduate intern in the Department of Photographs at the J. Paul Getty Museum, contributing to exhibitions on August Sander and Bernd and Hilla Becher. For the past two years, she has served as Research Assistant in Modern and Contemporary Collection Development at the Getty Research Institute working on acquisitions and exhibition planning for the Pacific Standard Time initiative, a multi- museum survey of postwar art in Southern California.
About ROY G BIV ROY G BIV Gallery is a non-profit art gallery located at 997 North High Street in Columbus, Ohio’s historic Short North District. ROY has been dedicated to supporting emerging artists since 1989, featuring thousands of artists during its twenty-one years of existence. We pride ourselves on bringing new and exciting art monthly to the Short North.
ENTRY PROCEDURE
For consideration, the artist must submit ten to twelve images digitally on CD in Powerpoint format only. Each Powerpoint slide is to be labeled with the following: number, title of work, date of work, medium, and dimensions. PowerPoint presentations should have a black or gray background and should not include sound except for video works.
In addition, the artist must submit jpeg files, 1MB or larger in size, of each image submitted. These must be labeled with last name and slide number (ex. smith01.jpg).
Each set of jpegs must be accompanied by an image list containing the following information for each submitted image: number, title of work, date of work, medium and dimensions. The image list must be in .doc or PDF format labeled with last name (ex. smithimagelist.doc).
Video artists can submit a selection of no more than 5 videos. Videos must be submitted in Quicktime (.mov) format with 740 X 480 aspect ratio for widescreen or 640 X 480 for fullscreen. The first two minutes of each video will be reviewed. Videos should not exceed a playing time of 15 minutes per video.
Submissions must include an artist statement and a resume in PDF or .doc format, labeled with last name (ex. smithstatement.doc) No other supplemental materials will be taken into consideration during the jury process.
CDs and DVDs will only be returned if accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope.
CDs and DVDs of selected artists will be retained for use in the promotion of ImageOHIO11.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
ENTRY FEE
