ROY G BIV Gallery is currently looking for artwork for our third-annual exhibition at the Carnegie Gallery at the Columbus Metropolitan Main Library. The exhibition will take place from Thursday, May 6th through Wednesday, June 16th 2010. The exhibition will be curated by ROY G BIV's curatorial committee and gallery director.
Artists may drop-off work from Sunday, April 25 through Wednesday, April 28 at the Main Library Arts and Media Division Desk on the second floor during open library hours. All artists must be members of ROY G BIV Gallery - interested artists can become members / renew memberships by visiting http://www.roygbivgallery.org/membership. Membership fees are 100% tax-deductible donations and fund the day-to-day operation of the gallery.
Borrowed Words is an exhibition examining the use of text as both a visual and appropriated element. All of the words in the artworks must be borrowed from published sources, such as songs, speeches, and newspapers. This exhibition explores what happens when artists transcribe these borrowed words into the visual realm.
ENTRY RESTRICTIONS
Artists may enter no more than 2 pieces each. More than one piece may be accepted. ROY G BIV Gallery is not require to exhibit any work submitted. Works of all media will be considered for exhibition.
The work must use text as a visual element in the work. Examples include but are not limited to comics, captioned photographs, and collage, to name a few. Creativity and ingenuity in the work, is, as always, greatly encouraged.
The words comprising the text must be borrowed from previously published texts. These can be from a diverse array of sources - lyrics, printed articles, novels, famous speeches, slogans, etc.
Two-dimensional works cannot exceed 24" x 24".
Three-dimensional works cannot exceed a base of 10" x 10".
Flat work must be framed and wired for hanging.
