Burned out SUV on W. 3rd Ave.?

Does anyone know what happened with the burned out/exploded (?) SUV on W. 3rd Ave. near Grandview? It's in a parking lot fronting W. 3rd between Dover and Edgehill; I think the business it is sitting in front of is Slone Graphics. I can't believe I didn't hear what happened, as I live only one block away. There are no news stories about an accident there, and the Columbus Police website doesn't have any reports about it.

It's not every day that I see a vehicle that looks like it hit a landmine in my quiet neighborhood...

I saw it there on Sunday and did a double take. I have seen burned out cars just sitting on the streets in Philly, but this is a first for Columbus.

I also saw it this weekend and wondered what had happened. I'll have to remember to check Tri-Village News and Grandview This Week and see if they have anything about it in police reports (although I guess the car was in Columbus, and they only do Grandview police reports...but I'll take a look anyway just to check)

It's still there..

I saw a guy come out of the office next to it and he walked by like nothing was up. There are a bunch of papers and things around the entire burned out shell. Wonder what happened.

It's a nice welcome as you enter the no man's land between UA and Grandview ;)

My husband and I have been joking that someone must have tried to breach the checkpoint to enter the Grandview Green Zone.

Seriously though, I did finally see a police report from the owner of the business it's sitting in front of; he called Columbus Police to report, "an automobile registered to person of interest caught fire and burned to the frame on his property in front of his business. The vehicle is still there nearly a week later. Attempts to contact the registered owner by victim and reporting officer met with dead ends."

It was listed as "miscellaneous incident." Yeah, it's miscellaneous alright...

No, a few years ago I was woken by a loud boom. I discovered a car burning outside of my place. So I jumped to action and grabbed the hose and soaked the car down. The police were there and got a good laugh at me to say the least. The heat was very intense.

Kinda, for several min it was like pissing on a Bonfire. The interior was the big challenge and focus.

some guys car caught fire in front of my house. fire dept comes, puts it out and left it there, I figured they'd tow it. 2 weeks went by. I call CPD. they came out and marked the tires. A couple of days later I called them to come check on it. they came out and towed it away. there might not be a police report on it, but there might be a fire dept report if they were called. if you want it gone, call the police to have it towed.

but since you said it is in a private lot, it is up to the lot owner to tow it.

Sounds about right. All that synthetic material in a typical car interior ( read: frozen gasoline ) is great fuel.

Not always, if the car is stolen or needs to be recovered for investigative purposes they will remove it from private property. About 3 times a year someone leaves stolen cars in the lots that surround me. The police have towed them everytime. If they leave it, you could always file for title after 90 days.
