Employing more tease than strip, burlesque sees bump in popularity

Brassy jazz music filled the air as whistles met the arrival of Cherie Blondell. Sporting platinum curls and a silky evening gown in the manner of Marilyn Monroe, the 26-year-old strutted about a tiny stage in the University District bar Kobo — where her burlesque troupe, the Ooh-La-Las, performed last week to raise money for a central Ohio animal shelter.
